Seit dem #Nvidia 575 Treiber funktioniert offenbar #Vulkan unter #Linux nicht mehr richtig. DOOM (2016) erkennt zum Beispiel unter der Vulkan API bei mir nur noch die Intel Graphics iGPU.

Ich wünschte wirklich, dass #AMD leistungsstärkere GPUs für Laptops herausbringen würde. Nicht, dass Radeon 700M oder 800M schlecht wären, aber sie sind halt keine Nvidia RTX 4000 / 5000 Max-Q.

Wenn #Gletscher weltweit schmelzen, drohen nicht nur lebenswichtige Wasserreservoire zu versiegen: Wie Forschende berichten, könnte die Eisschmelze zu mehr Vulkanausbrüchen führen – was wiederum den #Klimawandel weiter anheizt.

Das Team der Universität von Wisconsin-Madison, USA, untersuchte in Patagonien, im Süden #Chile's, einen Komplex von sechs Vulkanen. Besonderes Augenmerk legten sie auf den Zusammenhang zwischen Eisbedeckung und vulkanischer Aktivität. Analysen von Eruptivgestein zeigten, dass der Eispanzer während des Maximums der jüngsten Kaltzeit, etwa vor 26.000 bis 18.000 Jahren, vulkanische Aktivität buchstäblich unterdrückt haben musste – während sich in einer Tiefe von zehn bis 15 Kilometern unter der Erdoberfläche kieselsäurereiches #Magma sammelte.

Das rasche Schmelzen des Gletschereises am Ende der Kaltzeit führte dann zu einer Entlastung der Magmakammern. Gase im flüssigen Gestein dehnten sich aus, der steigende Druck trieb das Magma an die Erdoberfläche – und ließ in der Folge die #Vulkane des Komplexes entstehen, darunter den derzeit schlafenden #Vulkan #MochoChoshuenco....

Erneut ist der Vulkan Lewotobi Laki-Laki in Indonesien ausgebrochen. Die Aschewolke stieg 18 Kilometer in den Himmel. Anwohner sollen das Gebiet rund um den Krater meiden. Flüge auf die benachbarte Urlaubsinsel Bali wurden gestrichen.
