#monetize

I think the one thing you have to be aware of in regards to denizens of the #fediverse is that they are verily fatigued by large commercial platforms because of the #ads, the predatory #algorithms, #darkdesignpatterns, #tracking all stemming from the need to #monetize.

Each of those points are important because something's shouldn't be monetized, like #databrokering.

That's why I am suggesting client side algorithmic discovery, or a private and safe alt.

So besides sheitposting, here's a take: the #fediverse should find ways to ethically #monetize content.

Here's the thing: trading services and products is not exclusively the domain of #capitalism. Trading and the arts have existed for as long as society has.

What I want to see if that platforms like #Pixelfed and #PeerTube can in some way become monetizable by the user, if only via a Patreon integration or some form of direct payment option that can officially share revenue between the parts.

@GamingNews I have a #ConspiracyTheory on why they do this: They have plans to #monetize the game. They already hinted at that by saying the game will be *initially* free. 🤡
Monetizing such a simple game only works if they eliminate all competition without mercy. If there is any free clone or variant around, they don't have a monopoly. Which is good for us but bad for #NYT. #Copyright as a weapon.

"Sorry, Internet, you're only allowed to have NYT's proprietary Wordle. No creativity allowed."

#Canadian #Techies: Uh, that's #stupid. You #link to things on the #web; that's its entire #point. You don't #pay to link to someone else.

Canadian #Legacy #Media: No, no, it's a great #idea. They get all kinds of #value for it, so we asked the #government to make them pay to link to us.

Techs: you get more out of it than they do. Your #content gets much wider #exposure, and the #links take people to your own #sites.

CLM: But we don't know how to #monetize that.
