Dat is in essentie inderdaad een klein computertje waar ik de volledige controle over heb en waar ik ook mee kan bellen. Het besturingssysteem #PureOS kun je op telefoons, tablets, laptops, desktops en servers gebruiken (het is gebaseerd op #Debian).

@paulk Thanks. Ik gebruik de #Librem5 nog steeds als mijn dagelijkse telefoon. Waarschijnlijk komt er over niet al te lange tijd weer een volledige upgrade van het besturingssysteem (#PureOS). Misschien is het tijd om er weer eens een actueel blogje over te schrijven.

The price of $799 (ex VAT etc.) seems very fair to me for a phone from a manufacturer that does not sell any data of you, so that has to earn the income fully on selling hardware.

One of the products of Purism is the #Librem5. The Librem 5 is a #Linux phone that runs the #PureOS operating system.

This phone is built up from the bottom to provide #privacy and software #freedom. No #surveillance by the manufacturer, free and #opensource (#FOSS) is their standard.

I use a Librem 5 as my daily phone.

It would be great if Signal could become more friendly to those and not assume that everyone must use Andriod or iOS. Andriod or iOS are things of the past, we need to move away from those towards alternatives that put the user's freedom and privacy front and center.

@inderix 4G works well, but I have issues with SMS when I use 4G.

PureOS on the #Librem5 has for me the best user experience, because I am fully in control, and it is just a Linux device. I'm very used to the power that Linux gives their users.

But #PureOS is not as smooth as Android or IOS. Many things take some more effort. I accept some inconvenience to really own and control my device. The great thing is that PureOS gets better and better.

I want to support #Purism as a social purpose corporation by buying their #phone. Purism earns money on selling hardware. Although you can also take a totally optional subscription to support the development of the #PureOS operating system.

With phones from Android companies that run PmOS, you are less supporting the #MobileLinux eco system imo.

Purism initiated e.g. #phosh.

I'm not really using convergence, as I have other computers.

@inderix I use a #Librem5 as my daily phone for over three years.

The Librem 5 is not bloated with proprietary software.

Also note, that #Purism only at the selling time earns on you. They do not build profiles of their customers to sell.

The operating system, #PureOS, for the Librem 5 is maintained, and an upgrade is in the works.
