YouTube client NewPipe in the works natively for Sailfish OS ⛵

Common apps on Jolla's premier Linux smartphone C2 is already a breeze via Android compatibility layer (without Google) -- native area boosting up.

NewPipe?

◉Watch YouTube without questionable permissions
◉Open Source
◉PeerTube

Ps. Jolla C2 devices will get long-term Sailfish OS updates 100% free from now on! This also of course for existing Jolla C2 owners.

I have one for the N9, which seems to be a European image, which I can use to replace the Chinese version.

$ 0xFFFF -M DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_LEGACY_009-OEM1-958_ARM.bin -f -r

0xFFFF v0.9  // Open Free Fiasco Firmware Flasher

Error: Specified Image type cert-sw is unknown
Error: Cannot allocate image
Error: Cannot load fiasco image file DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_LEGACY_009-OEM1-958_ARM.bin

Cannot figure out how to flash it.

@TheDragon @nbourdais Sounds like #SailfishOS could fit this, indeed. You probably don't need the Android app support, so the free SailfishOS community edition would suffice. And you could use one of the many community ports, enlarging your available device range. I remember SFOS being quite snappy even on the slow #Pinehone 1. SailfishOS is very much #LinuxMobile. The UI is proprietary though. There's #nemoMobile as alternative, but I have never tried it.

Why does it have to be free and even more important, why does it have to be Android?

#SailfishOS by #Jolla for instance is largely open source and yet it helps people pay for their rents and although you can run Android apps on it, you're as far out of Google's reach as possible!

In the end, Android may be open source on paper, but Google still is the main contributor and can stall the project and they try to keep you in their sphere of influence, which Jolla doesn't.
