FAIR reached a new major milestone! The first superconducting multiplet magnet has been moved to the FAIR site. It is a component of the Super Fragment Separator and is a combination of different magnet types.

Our new #HITRAP #decelerator reached the next goal! We recently carried out the first experiment at the facility. With HITRAP, we are able to decelerate highly charged ions with few to no electrons.

New island of asymmetric fission discovered!
During a ten-day experiment at GSI/FAIR, an international team of scientists revealed a transition toward increasingly asymmetric fission in neutron-deficient heavy nuclei.

Surprisingly, the island is characterized by a dominance of light fission fragments of krypton (Z = 36).

We installed our permanent #magnet samples on tripods in the CEBAF #accelerator enclosure. These, along with those in my previous post, will be used to study how the magnets degrade in a #radiation environment.
