i wrote a bit of #rust and created an applet to show the weather (using wttr.in) in my panel (in #COSMICdesktop ). it needs a bit more work for it to re fetch the weather every hour or so, maybe nicer emojis in the panel, and I need to find a wttr.in format that looks good, but i'm already pretty happy with it ^^

i'm usually a backend dev only, so the frontend bit was new and confusing at first, but not insurmountable. nice little coding adventure :cateyes:

My computer made me mad last night so I rage wiped it and am trying #PopOS with their #CosmicDesktop

The user-friendly version of a tiling workspace is interesting. I'm only a few minutes into using it, but it seems like a much better intro to tiling for folks than just dumping them in Sway.

oh yeah! I really like it. I think it just auto-created a new workspace for me, when i attempted to tile .. from vert to horizontal placement to see the full terminal command line
(probably super + down then down again (or up))

but, it just made a new workspace for the window. unexpected, but i like it. it was a perfect compromise / option for the tiled placement, IMO.

I really like the Tiling options/ interface. Done and done. simple and functional. i may be home!?

as one who spends much time also with an #MXLinux env, @mxlinux y'all out to check out COSMIC.

EDIT: the "Dock" type bar at left, does AUto-close and typically not present. but always there for the screenshot, unless move the window "in front" of it, then it does collapse. cool.

I am looking at PopOS the upcoming Cosmic desktop. I think it looks good, I like the ideas behind as far as I understand them. Has anyone tried it or has thoughts about it? My daily driver is Kbuntu but I am considering switching to PopOS when a new version with the stable Cosmic desktop comes is released.
Any comments or ideas?

If your language doesn't have a separate set of pronouns for "things" or uses "generic masculine" variants, use the female variations (e.g. in german es/ihr).

This account is quirky and weird and so am I. *Appearing* professional (not to be confused with *acting* respectful and reasonable) is somewhat I personally despise and is in my opinion an expression of coperate dehumanization.

I post musings about my life, experiences, small victories, occasional vents, (occasionally lewd and cw'ed) shitposts, rare selfies, gender stuff, political things, mental health, .. a lot ...

I barely post about work on #COSMICdesktop, though I somewhat frequently post about FOSS and boost a lot cool tech stuff I come across.

Other than many things tech (keyboards, VR, mobile linux, wayland, self-hosting, ..) I am into music (#metalhead), Games (#HollowKnight my beloved) , bouldering, coffee, board games, hiking, ...

DMs are open, light flirting/compliments are fine and encouraged, for anything more get to know me and just ask.

Lastly: Trans rights, Black Lives Matter, Stand with Ukraine, Free Gaza, Bodily autonomy is a human right, Vaccines save lives, Punch Nazis. Any questions?

Wish me luck since I'm just learning a lot new things and the code is a mess, but I hope I will go far with this ^^ At least with something which will works somehow haha
