The Hortmans were apparently foster home trainers for a non-profit group that trains service dogs for veterans and others with disabilities. Their beloved golden retriever Gilbert was one of those dogs and ended up being adopted by them a few years ago. He was shot along with the two adults and was euthanized due to his injuries.

Boelter, 57, was appointed to Minnesota’s Governor’s Workforce Development Board in 2019, acc/to a document available online. The board advises the governor on Minnesota’s workforce.
