ETHZ and EPFL announced the release of a Large Language Model (LLM) developed on public infrastructure: Trained on the “Alps” supercomputer at the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) in 8B and 70B parameters configurations, using open-source training data, respecting web crawling opt-outs during data acquisition, and natively fluent in over 1000 languages. Quoting: "The model will be fully open: source code and weights will be publicly available, and the training data will be transparent and reproducible".

I don't know how good it's going to be, but if true for me this is the real definition of "open-source" in AI (not the ridiculous, corporate-promiscuous definition by the Open Source Initiative).

#OSI gave feedback to an #EU consultation on the #CyberSecurityAct (the law that created the EU Agency for Cybersecurity, #ENISA) We propose:

⚠️ Aligning the EU Vulnerability Database with the #CVE system, moving towards federated vulnerability reporting.

🧰 Expanding ENISA's public resources, especially Cybersecurity advice & Open Source Software recommendations.

💶 Supporting security audits, pentesting & bug bounties for core Open Source projects.

@osi But when will you publish the unredracted election results? codeberg.org/OSI-Concerns/elec @rakulang and #Perl foundation, @gnome with the rest of the #FOSS #FLOSS #OSS community demand that you publish them, why the silence? Several former #OSI directors too .. and #OSI members.

Really glad to see the #OSI's efforts highlighted here.

I worked as a Parliament staffer during negotiations on the #CyberResilienceAct, and can say with confidence that if it weren't for OSI, it's educational work, and its efforts to connect lawmakers with Open Source developers, the CRA would have been extremely harmful for the #OpenSource community.

@osi Did you inform these 50 maintainers of how you refuse to publish the unredracted 2025 election results? That hundreds of #FOSS hackers have signed a petition for you to do so, including several foundational organizations -- @gnome @debian? codeberg.org/OSI-Concerns/elec #OSI #OpenSource #OpenSourceInitiative

I haven't talked with @mikemcquaid in a while, but I know him to be an honorable person & I am sure if he'd known about the #OpenSource Initiative's election debacle & their refusal to publish election results, he'd not have written this article for them.

That is the center of @osi's bad behavior: the cover-up is much worse than the crime (it's at least true for non-violent crime).

#OSI has succeeded in getting traction for their false narrative; I don't blame
@mikemcquaid for not knowing …

@mikemcquaid Can you help putting pressure on the @osi to publish the unredracted 2025 election results that the #OSI have refused to publish despite calls from the #FLOSS #FOSS #OSS community? codeberg.org/OSI-Concerns/elec the #OpenSourceInitiative has published the results since the start, but this year they refuse to be transparent in their election process. @downey @richardfontana @bkuhn

#OSPO?

#OpenSource Program Office!

#PMPC, also #PublicMoneyPublicCode spielt dabei eine wichtige Rolle.

Here's the actual text we bilaterally negotiated w/ #OSI
> “In other venues, OSI inadvertently called the board agreement the board code of conduct. The board agreement governs our conduct as directors expected of leaders at OSI above and beyond, and the OSI code of conducts (License Review CoC, Event CoC, Discourse TOC) govern our whole community. To our knowledge, all involved with this election, even those who did not sign our board agreement, agreed to be held to the OSI code of conduct(s)”

:OSI: 190 #OpenSource community members have called upon #OSI to reveal the full election results they've been hiding from voters and the public.

🖋️ Will you join in? The organizers are still accepting pull request and email signatures.

In addition to @richardfontana's point, I think it's going too far to say #OpenSource Initiative is failing to meet 501(c)(3) requirements, @mcepl.

#OSI Directors clearly believe they are acting in the best interest of its mission; reasonable people can disagree about how to accomplish it & merely taking donations doesn't mean you've given private benefit to those donors.

That said, I remain annoyed OSI won't share their Form 1023 as legally required. (I've asked & been ignored)
