#Poetry to raise awareness that even after death takes those most precious to us, they live on through our memories of love.

The community of people facing #Alzheimers disease and related forms of #dementia is heterogeneous. We need support, care, solutions, and respect for all. Our community is a safe space for all.
This Wednesday at 11 PT, I'll be leading over Zoom "Keeping Each Other Company," a monthly #grief support group established by HFC, the #Alzheimer's foundation w/a focus on
#caregivers, created by #LaurenMillerRogen & #SethRogen. Many other support groups are available, as well. Here is a google doc that you should fill out if you want and/or need some company:
A brilliant reminder to focus on the person, not solely the bodily maladies.
Deepest gratitude to every researcher striving to reach our shared dream of a world without #Alzheimers and other forms of #dementia.
Ladies and gentleman, meet the pro-dementia party. If Congress passes #Trump's big, hideous bill, 96% of #Alzheimer's research projects would have to be rejected.
If you know someone with #dementia, if you love someone with #Alzheimer's, call your Congresspeople and tell them you have enough cognitive reserve to remember how they vote.
Honored that #HFC is highlighting this clip & recommending my memoir: "If you’ve ever felt lost in the language of a dementia diagnosis, this one’s for you. ‘Finding the Right Words’ by Cindy Weinstein is part memoir, part guide—created to help caregivers make sense of the medical terms & complex realities that come with Alzheimer’s. A must-read for anyone looking to understand the emotional & clinical sides of this disease."

The Alzheimer's Association speaks out against #RFK's dangerous, false, insulting, cruel statements: "On behalf of the over 7 million Americans living w/Alzheimer’s, the Alzheimer’s Association is calling on Sec. Kennedy to stop spreading these harmful Alzheimer’s myths, & preserve the nation’s investment in Alzheimer’s research so we can accelerate, not stop, scientific progress on diagnosis, prevention, treatments, & eventually cures."

Reposting this important article about Dale Bredesen's unscientific claims, which have made him a great deal of $, about his protocol being able to reverse #Alzheimer's. Better to heed experts like Bruce Miller & Mario Carillo. Also, yes, to the Mediterranean diet and no to social isolation; yes to hearing aids and no to all nighters; yes to exercise, good sleep, anti-depressants as needed and no to a concoction whose main ingredient is false hope.
If you ever want to connect about how things are going, I'm here. Sometimes, weirdly, talking to strangers can be easier.
Here is a review of my #memoir about my father's early-onset #Alzheimer's & the unbearable grief of watching a loved one die of #dementia. #Neurologist Dr. Bruce Miller wrote it w/me & explains the brain health (or sickness) behind the clinical presentations I saw: word-finding difficulties, spatial disorientation, behavioral anomalies, memory loss. The 1st chapter is on diagnosis. If this resonates, I am sorry. Readers have said the book has helped. https://bookshop.org/shop/WeAreHFC
The Doctor's Bookshelf (a blog of books every doctor should read, courtesy of Dr. Ibrahim Imam) lists Finding the Right Words: A Story of Literature, Grief, and The Brain, written by me and #UCSF #Neurologist Dr. Bruce Miller, as one of the Ten Incredibly Moving Patient #Memoirs about the Brain.
This Wednesday, May 21 from 11 to 12 PT, I'll be leading the monthly #HFC caregiver group on #grief. It's called "Keeping Each Other Company." If you are a #caregiver for someone with #dementia, or if you aren't but feel the grief of losing someone about whom you care, please join. Here is the google doc to sign up and get matched with the caregiver group that best fits what you need. It may be the one I lead, it may not. Either way, it may help.
Out of their pain, Lauren Miller Rogen and Seth Rogen have given us such a gift. #HFC, a foundation created in honor of Lauren's mother, Adele, who died of early-onset Alzheimer's. I am so glad to see their work recognized by Time Health 2025.
The memoir I wrote with #UCSF #neurologist, Dr. Bruce Miller, Finding the Right Words: A Story of Literature, Grief, and the Brain is now available through the HFC website. Please check out the bookshop and see the other books on #caregiving and #brain health. Thank you to #LaurenMillerRogen and #SethRogen for your advocacy and profound generosity.
"#Alzheimers is relentless, and we as advocates, must be as well."
1. Seth Rogen spoke up for science to the techbros whose $ supports an autocracy dedicated to the evisceration of research that makes our lives better by alleviating suffering. Zuckerberg, Bezos et al were there to celebrate the Breakthrough Prize, & Rogen called them out on their bad, bad faith. #Hero
2. I moderated a grief support group for the Rogens' foundation, HFC. The meeting helped some people who were having a hard time. #EndAlz
3. This bougainvillea #Bloomscrolling
My #website went live yesterday and I want to share it (again) because I'm so pleased with how it came out. There are links to some of the #dementia outreach presentations I've done, as well as some very pretty images. Hope you take a look and like!
