Dear Senator --
I am thrilled that more media outlets are drawing attention to the lines in the budget bill that would strip the courts of their contempt powers. Please be diligent in getting those lines removed, as the judiciary must remain independent with the full ability to hold anyone in contempt.
I also want you to strip out the language forbidding states from regulating AI. I noted in the news stories this weekend that the AI bill has been changed such that it blocks some federal broadband funding if a state passes certain AI laws.
No one has any idea what AI will be capable of in two years, let alone ten, and if the federal government will not restrict it, the federal government must not interfere with a state's ability to regulate use in each state.
And as written, the clause would punish states trying to expand broadband into rural areas. The language in the bill must go. Rural businesses need broadband to stay competitive. No one "needs" AI.
