I've made a nice automation script to connect to a serial console using #iTerm2 Profile on #macos. Never look for the serial device name in /dev again It uses #python and #rich for nice colouring https://github.com/varna9000/serial-iterm2/
I think that I am replacing iTerm2 with @panic Prompt on all of my machines after playing with it for a few days. They have a $20/yr or $99 price model and I don't know what makes sense. I hate renting software, though.
All of a sudden I got this message in an iTerm2 session. I've never seen this before.
What does this mean?
Edit: I see the help page about regex triggers: https://gitlab.com/gnachman/iterm2/-/wikis/Slow-Triggers
...but there are no regex triggers listed at all in my sessions - I never created any.
TIL: You can use the iTerm2 AI Plugin with your locally running Ollama model for command completion.

Annoyed by iTerm2* having 5 tabs "Mark's Atari Shell"** and 2 "Mark's Evil Lisp"***, I finally did minimal research and added to .zshrc:
* (still no practical replacement, alas)
** (theme, Atari 8-bit font, white on blue)
*** (theme, light on dark, red or green)
**** (I like footnotes)
Hey everyone - looks like #iTerm2 has released a security fix, so upgrade to 3.5.11 if you use it!
Currently trying out #ghostty by @mitchellh as I'm searching for an alternative to the magnificent #iTerm2 on #Linux.
Brought it up using #Distrobox on my #SteamDeck running on #BazziteOS as there is no AppImage (yet, I guess) - what an interesting concept.
Ghostty looks great currently.
I didn't know, Mitchell was on to this until I saw @b0rk mentioning it.
Thanks to both!
aktuell am #wezterm statt #iterm2 nutzen tun und feels naiss #transparenzpost
Well I will just thow this out there, take it or leave it. Many #MacOS users, especially those who have moved to or also use #Linux, have asked if there is anything equivalent to or better than #iTerm2 . You might take a look at #WindTerm (https://github.com/kingToolbox/WindTerm) UNLESS you have a thing about not using completely open source code (https://github.com/kingToolbox/WindTerm/issues/2238). Depending on the features you value it may or may not be a suitable replacement for, or supplement to iTerm2.
#terminal
iTerm2 latest has an annoying thing where it highlights a command & response. Here's where you turn that off:
I'm about one more stupid design choice from dumping it and… what other terminals are any good? Apple Terminal works and also has Sh-Cmd-Up, but I'd like automatic path detection & such.
#iterm2
#iTerm2 users
I'm still looking for a way to disable the dimming of other commands & output when you click one. (the grayed out stuff in this pic)
I REALLY hate this, and would love it if someone could tell me how to make it stop.
Otherwise I'm just going to switch to Kitty or something, because this is frustrating me more every day.
Iterm2 maintainer adds AI to iterm, gets yelled at.

There was a lot of concern about iTerm 2's new AI feature, and it's been addressed in 3.5.1beta2
This beta adds some safety valves to eliminate the
risk of private information leaving the terminal
via the AI endpoints. While an API key and
explicit user action were always needed to use AI
features, some users asked for an impenetrable
firewall for safety and regulatory purposes.

@ramsey @kboyd @thomas @grmpyprogrammer Yeah. This is the problem. My company works with extremely sensitive data (HR tech) and our systems are set up not to allow access to ChatGPT - no autopilot integrations or anything. Although #iTerm2 integration is opt-in, I think the fact that you _can_ opt in is going to cause an issue with CorpSec. Unless they can control the configuration of AI, it may be that they will have to prevent its installation entirely. A plugin would have been better.
Can you don’t #iTerm2
