Trump cuts hundreds of #EPA #grants, leaving #cities on the hook for #climate resiliency
Critics argue the projects losing funding aren’t "woke," they’re essential.
Under the Trump administration, the EPA has canceled or interrupted hundreds of grants aimed at improving #health and severe #weather preparedness because the agency “determined that the grant applications no longer support administration priorities,” according to an emailed statement to Grist.

I really like the idea of turning urban environments into gardens. Unfortunately, not every city can afford this - pollution often makes such projects impossible. Stockholm can still indulge in such luxury. There's something truly amazing about stepping out of your door and being greeted by green flowerbeds with bulbs planted by the neighbor and the tangy scent of rhubarb. #Cities #Gardens #Stockholm #Sustainability

As I was waiting for the bus this morning, I had an idea for a new Weird Al parody: “On the Bus Again,” based on Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again.” It can be an ode to transit in general. 🚌🚏🎶

(And don’t ask me why I’m going into the office. I don’t know. Such decisions, sadly, are apparently above my pay grade.) 🙄🤷🏻‍♂️😕

University of Missouri: Study explores how to use AI to listen to the ‘heartbeat’ of a city. “Using public Instagram posts with location tags, the researchers trained an AI tool to read the emotional tone of the images and text of the posts, identifying whether people were happy, frustrated or relaxed. Then, using Google Street View and a second AI tool, they analyzed what those places […]

America’s loneliest airports outside of Alaska

Based on calendar year 2023 data for enplanements (boardings only), the following commercial airports outside of Alaska had the fewest annual passengers in the United States. A maximum of 5,000 passenger enplanements was required for inclusion. Generally, enplanements are roughly 50 percent of an airports total passenger load. Alaska was excluded due to the sheer number of very small and remote communities.

Probably this biggest surprises on this list are Pueblo, Colorado given it has more than 100,000 residents and is a fairly long and busy trip to Denver, as well as Mammoth Lakes, California given that it is a popular ski resort area. Though Branson is a popular entertainment destination, nearby Springfield, Missouri captures most of the air traffic and renamed it airport Springfield-Branson National to help attract travelers headed for Branson. Many the other airports are either in very rural locations or situated a bit too close to a larger airport (e.g. Altoona, Muskegon, and Hot Springs).

Montana and California lead the way with three airports each on this list, followed by Arkansas, Hawaii, Missouri, New York, and West Virginia with two each. It is a little surprising to see no airports from Texas on the list given its size and vast rural areas.

Peace!
