Generic Person<p>I finally figured out borders in sizers along with icon buttons. This look a lot better now!</p><p>Note: the refresh button has a help icon now. This is temporarily until I can figure out if wxWidgets provides a refresh icon somewhere.</p><p>(Oh, and yes, the status bar is a dummy status bar. Maybe I'll get rid of it, I don't know).</p><p><a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/websurfer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>websurfer</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/wxwidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxwidgets</span></a></p>
Generic Person<p>Today I am here to announce the release of yet another #2048 game, wx2048. I call it that because it uses <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/wxWidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxWidgets</span></a>. This program was originally written when I was in high school sometime last year. It was done for a club fair that we had and I thought of writing it for the club fair since I thought it could impress some people. Indeed, a few people did try it, but it did not help increase the club's membership (it was already dead before the event anyways, despite me being president that year).</p><p>Just today did I rediscover this program's existence. Unfortunately, it had a bug in in checking if there were moves left, which I believe I fixed some time ago but have yet to recover it off my dead laptop. Not to worry, it was an easy fix for that.</p><p>If you are interested in taking a look at it, here's where it now resides: <a href="https://codeberg.org/generic-pers0n/wx2048" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">codeberg.org/generic-pers0n/wx</span><span class="invisible">2048</span></a>. Let me know what you think!</p>

ENEP Linuxoid<p>I'm writing a tool for working with the wxWidgets. library resource file.<br>I need this for a project at my main workplace.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/wxWidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxWidgets</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/wxPython" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxPython</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>python</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/kde" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>kde</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/pycharm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pycharm</span></a></p>
Tenacity Audio Editor<p>Apparently, <a href="https://floss.social/tags/KiCad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KiCad</span></a> had said some things about <a href="https://floss.social/tags/Wayland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Wayland</span></a> support and how they don't work under <a href="https://floss.social/tags/wxWidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxWidgets</span></a> quite yet. Since we are also a wxWidgets program, we'll say a few things about our Wayland support, which isn't perfect:</p><p>- Toolbars don't work under Wayland.</p><p>- As of the latest stable, the track panel works, but needs to be optimized.</p><p>- Tooltips work.</p><p>This requires explanation, however (1/2).</p>

VZ<p>&gt; We're preparing for 3.3.0</p><p>And it's done, see <a href="https://wxwidgets.org/news/2025/06/wxwidgets-3.3.0-released/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">wxwidgets.org/news/2025/06/wxw</span><span class="invisible">idgets-3.3.0-released/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/release" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>release</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/wxWidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxWidgets</span></a></p>
VZ<p>We're preparing for 3.3.0, the first release in the new <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/wxWidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxWidgets</span></a> 3.3 branch (scheduled for 6/6). It contains more than 3 years of work on master branch since 3.2.0, so there are a lot of new things — and, of course, some possibility for breakage, so testing the current master before the release and reporting any regressions would be really welcome!</p><p>As 3.3 is broadly compatible with 3.2, little, if any, changes should be needed in order to test your apps with it, please do it if you can, TIA!</p>
VZ<p>The flip coin of making releases often is that things get broken more often too and, unfortunately, 3.2.7 had a couple of regressions, so we had to make another <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/wxWidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxWidgets</span></a> release just a month later, which must be a new record.</p><p>See <a href="https://wxwidgets.org/news/2025/04/wxwidgets-3.2.8-released/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">wxwidgets.org/news/2025/04/wxw</span><span class="invisible">idgets-3.2.8-released/</span></a> for more information but, in short, this is mostly just a bug fix release, with only very minor additions.</p>
TOV<p>Audacity 4 is focusing on improving the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX), along with enhancements to the core functionality. Audacity 4 will also uses Qt GUI toolkit instead of WxWidgets.</p><p><a href="https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/bring-back-advanced-vertical-zooming/120518" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">forum.audacityteam.org/t/bring</span><span class="invisible">-back-advanced-vertical-zooming/120518</span></a></p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/audacity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audacity</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/audacity4" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audacity4</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Qt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Qt</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/WxWidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WxWidgets</span></a></p>
VZ<p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/wxWidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxWidgets</span></a> releases are so regular nowadays that it doesn't even surprise me that we've managed to make another <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/release" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>release</span></a> in the stable 3.2 branch even _earlier_ than planned (it was originally scheduled for April 4).</p><p>As with the other stable (meaning API and ABI-compatible) releases, nothing earth-shattering in this one, but it's still recommended to get it for bug fixes and improved support for the newest compilers versions.</p><p>See <a href="https://wxwidgets.org/news/2025/03/wxwidgets-3.2.7-released/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">wxwidgets.org/news/2025/03/wxw</span><span class="invisible">idgets-3.2.7-released/</span></a> for more details.</p>
VZ<p>It feels good to finally scratch my own itch and add support for reacting to sleep/suspend events in <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/wxwidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxwidgets</span></a> under <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a>, see<br><a href="https://wxwidgets.org/blog/2025/02/linux-power/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">wxwidgets.org/blog/2025/02/lin</span><span class="invisible">ux-power/</span></a></p><p>With these changes, my wx programs can finally save/close files/network connections when I put my machine to sleep and reopen/restore them later. I hope others find this as useful as I do!</p>
VZ<p>In other news, I've accidentally found out today about Audiblez (<a href="https://claudio.uk/posts/audiblez-v4.html" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">claudio.uk/posts/audiblez-v4.h</span><span class="invisible">tml</span></a>), an <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>opensource</span></a> project for creating <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/audiobooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audiobooks</span></a> using <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/wxwidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxwidgets</span></a>. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it looks pretty nice and useful.</p>
Generic PersonTenacity Adventures, long, maybe some inaccuracies?
VZ<p>We're preparing to release <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/wxWidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxWidgets</span></a> 3.2.5 next week and any help with testing the latest 3.2 sources (see <a href="https://github.com/wxWidgets/wxWidgets/releases/tag/v3.2.5-rc1" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/wxWidgets/wxWidgets</span><span class="invisible">/releases/tag/v3.2.5-rc1</span></a>) would be very welcome!</p>
Chris_272<p>Nachdem ich jetzt mein zweites Projekt mit <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/wxWidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxWidgets</span></a> gestartet habe, komme ich langsam auch etwas rein 😄</p>
VZ<p>I've taken the absence of any bug reports as a good sign rather than just a sign of insufficient testing which is, admittedly, more likely, but you'd never <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/release" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>release</span></a> anything without being optimistic and so <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/wxWidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxWidgets</span></a> 3.2.4 is now officially released, see <a href="https://wxwidgets.org/news/2023/11/wxwidgets-3.2.4-released/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">wxwidgets.org/news/2023/11/wxw</span><span class="invisible">idgets-3.2.4-released/</span></a></p>
VZ<p>Good news: we are trying to actively maintain stable 3.2 branch of <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/wxWidgets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wxWidgets</span></a> instead of letting it go stale while all the development happens in master, as it had happened with 3.0.</p><p>Worse news: due to a large number of changes in recent 3.2.3, a couple of regressions slipped into it.</p><p>Best news: we're now releasing 3.2.4 which fixes all these regressions and a few more bugs.</p><p>Please help us by testing v3.2.4 tag in our Git repository at <a href="https://github.com/wxWidgets/wxWidgets" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">github.com/wxWidgets/wxWidgets</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> before it's officially released!</p>
