Wolfgang Stief
»The layers of the electronics industry chain are heavily interdependent and long-term strategic advantages can only be achieved when all layers are available and provide state-of-the-art products. Increasing foreign penetration into the European industry chain, accomplished for instance by offering instant profits, decreases its strengths and creates undesirable dependencies.«

–Egon Hörbst, then executive director at Siemens AG Corporate Research, in IEEE Micro, August 1992. #vintagecomputing
