Richard Lent<p>What appears to be a species of Lucidota beetle is following a trail of nectar up to the open maw of a pitcher plant trap (Sarracenia minor). The light-colored patches inside the trap mouth look like openings but are actually translucent windows. If the insect tries to fly through the "opening" it will hit the trap wall and fall to its certain death.</p><p>Cool.</p><p><a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/carnivorousplants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>carnivorousplants</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/plants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plants</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/insectivorousplants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>insectivorousplants</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/botany" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>botany</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/nature" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nature</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/houseplants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>houseplants</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/biology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>biology</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/biodiversity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>biodiversity</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/SavageGarden" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SavageGarden</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/pitcherplants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pitcherplants</span></a></p>
