Quasi
#TimeTravelAuthors Jul 1: Intro

When Carrie went to University, she didn't expect a lot of things. A quantum locked roommate, a time travel assassin, and a pretty girl on her floor are just some of the issues for her to deal with in this present day (ish) time jumping tale.

(Alternatively: When will I get back to writing the Time & Tied sequel? This month. I hope.)

Quasi
#TimeTravelAuthors 29: Free space

The 2025 (Cdn) coins are in circulation, to the point where I received one this month. Apologies for low quality image. But the time travel may now commence.

(For those you don't know, my story requires having a coin with the year of destination. Never travel to the past without a present day coin to return.)

Quasi
#TimeTravelAuthors 27: Characters trust each other?

Initially? No one's sure who to trust, and there are a number of betrayals. Once the cast fully comes together, they MOSTLY trust each other.

Caveats are, Carrie doesn't trust herself (or the others in so far as they may do what's best for her, not the timeline), no one fully trusts Glen, and Tori rarely trusts anyone else.

Quasi
#TimeTravelAuthors 25: Balance?

*
"We can't trust data for tests we haven't seen.”
“Sure we can, your future’s unchangeable, right?”
“Data obtained that way could still be faulty.”
"You have no sense of adventure,” Carrie argued.
"You have no sense of responsibility," Frank fired back.
"You have no sense of fun."
"You have no sense of paradox."
"You... shut up," Carrie said, giving Frank’s shoulder a shove. He fell off his library stool. "You have no sense of balance," she declared.

Quasi
#TimeTravelAuthors 23: Alternate history aspects?

One of the pillars of my stories is it's near impossible to change significant moments in history. I also don't enjoy thinking through the repercussions of changes. I use the Quantum Leap playbook, minor adjustments that don't make the history books. Assuming even those changes are possible.

Julie Bihn
Aaaah I really wish I'd bothered to post this on the 20th when there were fewer world events, but anyone want to give next month's proposed prompts a look? #TimeTravelAuthors

Pam Portland, novelist and blogger
#TimeTravelAuthors #Day21 #Chapter2 She glanced around the cluttered #space for a safe place to set her student’s assignments, her daily calendar, a few assorted bills, and the small clutch containing her wallet, keys, and sunglasses. She opted for a free spot on Patrick’s desk in the far corner.

Quasi
#TimeTravelAuthors 21: safe?

*
“Great, you're still here," Luci panted. "We have to get into that safe of Linquist's."

"The SAFE?" Julie crossed her arms. "Luci, I'm not sure if you've been keeping up, but we're preparing to chloroform and imprison a rather dangerous girl for questioning. Now is hardly the time for safe cracking."

"You don't understand. It’s not cracking. I know the combination now."

Quasi
#TimeTravelAuthors 19: Get a vacation?

There's a few time skips where characters might have relaxed. There's also a couple parts where the cast gets time off, because Mr. Waterson is writing a short story about what if everyone was animals. Later, one character from the past spends some time in the present, so I guess for them that's like a vacation?

But generally no. Not even a beach episode. Even though I suspect they could all use one.

Quasi
#TimeTravelAuthors 17: Companies/Corporations?

None that play a role. For example, there's stuff like Julie has a chip fabricated and shipped into town by some electronics group, but only the chip is relevant to the plot.

Steve DeGroof 📚🛸
#TimeTravelAuthors Jun 17: Any companies/corporations in your story?

Sayles Research - a semi-evil corporation that registers cutting-edge patents at suspiciously regular intervals

Human Archive Project - an entity that scans people shortly before they die, and uploads them to an artificial reality called Afterlife

Finlay Enterprises - a tech company run by a eccentric (possibly deranged) billionaire

Quasi
#TimeTravelAuthors 15: Use/Encounter AI?

I can't escape the fact that my "present day" story is now firmly somewhere in the 2010s, technologically. In that sense, no.

The characters do jump a couple decades into the future at one point. Still no direct usage, but it was likely incorporated into the security programs they dealt with.

Quasi
#TimeTravelAuthors 13: Oldest character?

I suppose Hank Waterson, Carrie's father. Age unspecified, but in his later 40s. He gets a couple brief POV scenes (but then a lot of SCs do in my early writing).

The school principal might have him beat, but Mr Hunt could be anywhere from 40 to 55 for all we know.

D. G. Marshall
#TimeTravelAuthors 13: Oldest character?

Jenny is going to be surprised when she meets her grandfather for the first time.

He's hunted mammoths in Ice Age France, alongside Neanderthals.

No, he's not a time traveller. He just doesn't age like most people.

Quasi
#TimeTravelAuthors 11: Harmony?

*
CHAPTER: Four Part Harmony

Mrs. Willis rounded the corner of the music room door to see Megan, Tori, Laurie and Chartreuse grouped around the smashed remains of a violin. The normally calm teacher's eyes widened. "Not... one... word. All of you. To the office. NOW," she demanded in cold fury.

Quasi
#TimeTravelAuthors 9: Costumes?

A couple of times characters try to pass themselves off as a different character, through clothing or otherwise. But no one puts on a costume per se.

Contrast the sequel WIP where I decided to have a Halloween episode. Peaches dresses as Princess Peach and gets Carrie to dress as Princess Daisy. Crazy, right?

Ray Ingles
#WordWeavers 8. If you have more than one story, what’s your best one & why? If only one, what’s the best part?

I have some old fanfiction, but SECONDARY's my debut novel. It's the stuff I'm proudest of. But probably the best bit is when the MC is getting interrogated by the local 'police' - for a serious crime, when he's only learned a toddler-level vocabulary.

It was tricky to write so it'd feel real. But that scene in particular has stood out for several readers.

#SciFi #TimeTravelAuthors

Quasi
#TimeTravelAuthors 7: Focus?

*
Luci bit her tongue again. God, past Carrie was so self centred. If only their own Carrie were able to answer these questions... and remembering why that wasn’t possible immediately focused Luci's attention back on the mission.

"Nothing. Look, I can't promise anything. But all I need, is to find out who was working for the LaMilles when Julie was about nine years old. Do you know how I might do that?”

Quasi
#TimeTravelAuthors 5: Characters meet themselves?

That is, honestly, the whole damn point. They meet themselves in the present, they try to avoid meeting themselves in the present, they meet their present selves in the past, they meet future versions of their friends, and ultimately the protagonist and antagonist are the exact same person.

If you could change the worst day of your life, would you? SHOULD you? Wouldn't that change who you are now?

Anderlandbooks
#TimeTravelAuthors June 3 Dreams in your stories

Not a single dream occurrence in #TimeCurves

I don't use them much - mostly, when something truly traumatic happened in the narrator's past. Jules and Vera both don't have such a trauma.
