Dr. Juande Santander-Vela<p>This is my second migration on Mastodon, so I think an Introduction might be in order. I'm moving in to this account (that had lived independently, to test some of Mathstodon features) after astrodon.social is being sunset. Hope that Astrodon as a concept still lives!</p><p>I currently work in Systems Engineering for radio telescopes (in particular, the ALMA radio interferometer). I’ve also worked in software development and management for the SKAO observatory, and for the archive department at ESO. Of course, I'm also very interested in math (specially that having to do with system theory), so I'll try to get a bit stronger there.</p><p>Glad to see you all around!</p><p><a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/Introduction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Introduction</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/SystemsEngineering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SystemsEngineering</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/SystemTheory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SystemTheory</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/RadioTelescopes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RadioTelescopes</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/ALMA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ALMA</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/AtacamaLargeMillimeterArray" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AtacamaLargeMillimeterArray</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/AtacamaLargeMillimeterSubmillimeterArray" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AtacamaLargeMillimeterSubmillimeterArray</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/SKAO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SKAO</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/SquareKilometreArrayObservatory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SquareKilometreArrayObservatory</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/ESO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ESO</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/EuropeanSouthernObservatory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EuropeanSouthernObservatory</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/Astrodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Astrodon</span></a></p>

jan…in the physical world matter dissolves into a play of energies, and in the biological world structures are the expression of a flow of processes.<br>— Ludwig von Bertalanffy (1968), General System Theory<br><a class="hashtag" href="https://pleroma.microblog.se/tag/systemtheory" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#systemtheory</a>
jan"Von Bertalanffy radiated a simple goodness, a largeness of mind, and a dignity notably absent in those who attacked him so violently, such as the molecular biologist Jacques Monod. Monod was typical of the excessively positivist, algorithmic, brute-force people who naturally cluser around the idea of reductionism (or as Monod preferred, “analysis”) is all there is to science. Their political counterparts..., in practicing their self-styled pragmatism..., only succeeded in committing blunder upon blunder."<br>—Robert Rosen, Anticipatory Systems, 435<br><a class="hashtag" href="https://pleroma.microblog.se/tag/systemtheory" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#systemtheory</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://pleroma.microblog.se/tag/systems" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#systems</a>
jan"I got to understand [Ludwig von] Bertalanffy’s view of System Theory, not only as a scientific, but also a social movement. … Whereas I viewed the reductionisms and materialisms rampant in biology merely as scientifically inadequate, von Bertalanffy saw them as evil and dehumanizing; in the deepest sense immoral. Animated by his profound love of both science nad of humanity, he was inspired to project his view of Systems, governed by ways of relating things rather than stressing differences, into an alternate world view; a paradigm, as he called it, which would offer both sicence and mankidn something better."<br>—Robert Rosen, Anticipatory Systems, 434<br><a class="hashtag" href="https://pleroma.microblog.se/tag/systemtheory" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#systemtheory</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://pleroma.microblog.se/tag/systems" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#systems</a>
