concretedog
Gearing up for a larger underwater rov build and this morning did a "working out approaches" test bit of #FreeCAD to design a propeller. It's completely incorrect but I wanted to refresh my usage of the helix tool stuff.

Abram Kedge 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇨🇦
Progress at last on the airship envelope. I'm making a model in #FreeCAD of the airship from Splinter Town Fall.

I had some trouble making it hollow, then cutting the windows. This is my fourth attempt. When I abandoned attaching the window outlines to the model faces (as shown in every tutorial), things stopped breaking!

I have the engine nacelles ready to attach, but first I'll work on the interior - I'm hoping to find a program that will let me walk through the whole model. Attaching a hundred and twenty 60,000 cubic ft gas bags to an internal frame is going to be interesting...

Abram Kedge 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇨🇦
Hmm... Trying to fix a problem cutting windows in my airship envelope, I found this advice for "Creating Stable Models" in #FreeCAD:

"Avoid attaching sketches and custom datum geometry to generated geometry, that is any face, edge or vertex, of the model's solid. Attach them to standard planes/axes instead. Sketches attached to standard planes/axes or to datum geometry attached to standard planes/axes, will not get unexpectedly reattached to a different reference. Use attachment offsets as needed."

Well heck... every tutorial I've ever seen involves creating a part, then clicking on a face and creating a new sketch to modify the part. This changes everything. Starting two weeks work again I think...
