:freebsd: :linux:<p>Well, my first conclusion after, well, about two weeks of using Linux Mint: mixed.</p><p>If you've been using Fedora Linux for years, it's a noticeable step backwards. What runs smoothly under Fedora, where devices are recognized without any problems, requires a little extra help with Mint - and often more time...</p><p>Examples: I have a Brother DCP3515 multifunction laser printer. Under Fedora, it is recognized immediately via WLAN and if you want to print something, it can be done in seconds. With Mint, a connection was only possible via USB, only then could I set it up via WLAN. And it takes a few minutes for the printout to come out of the printer. Very annoying!</p><p>Or my uGreen NAS: under Fedora, it is there immediately after logging on to the PC when I click on the shortcuts in the file explorer. Under Mint it feels like it takes forever before I can access the NAS at all. Quite apart from the fact that it didn't work out of the box, I had to install Samba first. And I find such annoying little things in every corner of Mint.</p><p>So I can't understand why Linux Mint is constantly cited as the ideal distribution for Windows users as an introduction to the Linux world. Just because of the Win10-like Cinnamon desktop? I would only advise anyone to use Fedora if it's not about ideology, like me. And even I'm beginning to doubt whether it's worth it...</p><p><a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/unix" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unix</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>opensource</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/freesoftware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>freesoftware</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/linuxmint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linuxmint</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fedora</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/fedoralinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fedoralinux</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/rhel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rhel</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/cinnamon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cinnamon</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/windows10" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>windows10</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>windows</span></a></p>

Grey<p>When using kdenlive on Fedora, the timeline preview wouldn't play in realtime and have horrible performance even if I set the preview quality to 240p. I saw on reddit that some people were resolving other issues by switching flatpak/dnf installations, so I decided to try the flatpak version. Presto! It works like a dream now. I can preview my timeline in 1080p with zero playback issues. I am SO relieved to be able to edit videos again.</p><p>(TLDR: installing kdenlive on fedora through flatpak fixed unusable performance problems) <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/kdenlive" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>kdenlive</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/fedoralinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fedoralinux</span></a></p>

Aptivi<p><strong>Fedora 43 and RPM 6.0, JPEG-XL wallpapers, and&nbsp;more…</strong></p><p>While Fedora 42 is still in works, which is expected to release in April, Fedora 43 has been planned for major changes, such as adding support for RPM 6.0, wallpapers that are in the JPEG-XL format, and much more to come. Fedora 43 will feature the following big changes:</p><ul><li>Fedora 43, starting from that version, will use <a href="https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/RPM-6.0" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">RPM 6.0</a> package manager, which will improve security across many aspects by introducing enforced signature checking for packages, OpenPGP key handling improvements, support for multiple signatures per package, automatic packag signing at build time, and signing with Sequoia-sq as an alternative to GnuPG.</li><li>JPEG-XL will be used as a default for desktop wallpapers as these files come in smaller sizes than wallpapers that use the PNG format. This proposal was filed <a href="https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/SwitchToJXLforDefaultWallpaper" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">on March 10th, 2025</a>, and remains to be seen if it’s going to be accepted.</li><li>The <a href="https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/DeprecateGoldLinker" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">GNU Gold linker</a> from the binutils project will be deprecated to reduce the amount of legacy code as packages start to drop the GNU Gold linker in favor of better linkers.</li><li>The <a href="https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Retire_gtk3-rs,_gtk-rs-core_v0.18,_and_gtk4-rs_v0.7" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Rust bindings for GTK3</a> will be deprecated because they are not maintained upstream. That was because gtk-rs-core version 0.19 and 0.20 have deprecated the compatibility bindings for version 0.18 and older.</li><li>The <a href="https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Migrate_to_lastlog2" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">lastlog2 module</a> will be used as an alternative to the older lastlog module for last user login information, because the improved version contains a very important fix for the Year 2038 problem for programs that use dates as 32-bit time representations. It also provides a native library and a PAM module to allow applications to accurately track the last login date and time for a specific user.</li></ul><p>However, not all proposals will be accepted, but we hope that the majority of them will be accepted. If positive feedback has been emerged, and if the above proposals are accepted, that will improve the user experience for Fedora 43 users, which will be released this fall.</p><p><a href="https://audiomack.com/aptivi/song/fedora-43-and-rpm-60-jpeg-xl-wallpapers-and-more" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://audiomack.com/aptivi/song/fedora-43-and-rpm-60-jpeg-xl-wallpapers-and-more</a></p><p><span></span></p><p><a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/computers/" target="_blank">#Computers</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/fedora/" target="_blank">#Fedora</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/fedora-34/" target="_blank">#Fedora34</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/fedora-linux/" target="_blank">#FedoraLinux</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/linux/" target="_blank">#Linux</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/news/" target="_blank">#news</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/tech/" target="_blank">#Tech</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/technology/" target="_blank">#Technology</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/update/" target="_blank">#update</a></p>
