Random Geek<p><a href="https://civet.dev/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Civet</a> looks interesting. It's <em>basically</em> <a href="https://hackers.town/tags/CoffeeScript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CoffeeScript</span></a> for the <a href="https://hackers.town/tags/TypeScript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TypeScript</span></a> world, adding type checking and implementing several TC39 proposals along the way.</p><p>Editor support is currently limited to VS Code, but maybe that'll expand if it catches on.</p>
Cédric Belin<p>These are great times.<br>I've just created a tiny .NET Windows Forms application... in CoffeeScript! Thanks to the "Node API for .NET" library.<br>Just CoffeeScript, not a single line of C# code.</p><p><a href="https://microsoft.github.io/node-api-dotnet/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">microsoft.github.io/node-api-d</span><span class="invisible">otnet/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/CoffeeScript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CoffeeScript</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/JavaScript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JavaScript</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/dotNET" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dotNET</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/NodeJS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NodeJS</span></a></p>
Todd A. Jacobs | Rubyist<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@cedx" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>cedx</span></a></span> I think it's a great option for <a href="https://ruby.social/tags/Rubyists" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Rubyists</span></a> that need some <a href="https://ruby.social/tags/JS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JS</span></a> without having to master the whole JS language or one of its many frameworks first. However, transpilers are abstractions, and all abstractions are leaky. Native idioms can sometimes be more optimal, and it can be hard to debug transpiled code if you haven't mastered the target language too.</p><p>Choosing <a href="https://ruby.social/tags/CoffeeScript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CoffeeScript</span></a> as a transpiler over native <a href="https://ruby.social/tags/ECMAscript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ECMAscript</span></a> is therefore a trade-off. There's no canonical right answer.</p>
Cédric Belin<p>Is CoffeeScript dead?!?</p><p>(Go to npmjs.com...)</p><p>I don't think so: 1.2 million downloads per week! 🥳 </p><p><a href="https://www.npmjs.com/package/coffeescript" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">npmjs.com/package/coffeescript</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/CoffeeScript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CoffeeScript</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/JavaScript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JavaScript</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/WebDev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WebDev</span></a></p>

Alex Nedelcu<p>Back when Bruce Tate was inviting people to learn a programming language per year, I thought it was silly, but seeing people getting stuck in a single ecosystem, I can see the point.</p><p>I'm primarily a <a href="https://social.alexn.org/tags/Scala" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Scala</span></a> dev, as I love the language &amp; ecosystem. My profile usually doesn't say that I've also worked professionally w/ <a href="https://social.alexn.org/tags/Python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Python</span></a>, <a href="https://social.alexn.org/tags/Ruby" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Ruby</span></a>, <a href="https://social.alexn.org/tags/PHP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PHP</span></a>, <a href="https://social.alexn.org/tags/Perl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Perl</span></a>, <a href="https://social.alexn.org/tags/CSharp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CSharp</span></a>, <a href="https://social.alexn.org/tags/JavaScript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JavaScript</span></a> (+<a href="https://social.alexn.org/tags/CoffeeScript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CoffeeScript</span></a>, <a href="https://social.alexn.org/tags/TypeScript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TypeScript</span></a>), <a href="https://social.alexn.org/tags/CPP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CPP</span></a>, <a href="https://social.alexn.org/tags/Bash" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Bash</span></a>, others.</p><p>It's in the job description 🤷‍♂️</p>
