@mplsfietser.bike And the article has another added problem, a view held by adults who drive, which is characterizing childrens' use of #bikes as a "pastime," rather than as a way for even a youngster to be independent as they go to a job, or to school, or to visit a friend--ie, as necessary transportation! I sense this opinion also bleeding out into a ready dismissal of adults who bike: "certainly they must be playing at it!!" 😦

While I agree with a lot of this, something I'd like to see return is parking minimums to help push 8- and 10-plexes to block corners. Even a 0.4 requirement would help guide these developments to where they should be, not mid-block.

I've heard this on the doors time and time again across our mature neighbourhoods and folks agree this would help fill this gap.

Jacob DawangThe RS zoning story they don’t tell you – Jacob DawangAh, here we go again. A deeper look at the RS zone that seems to perenially be in the news. How much housing supply is being delivered, and how fast are mature neighbourhoods really changing?

Every morning this week has started with a "pinch me" moment as I've tapped my (temporary) badge and walked out onto the second floor of City Hall from the elevator.

I'm thrilled - and humbled - to be able to support my Councillor and my community in this new capacity.

I've struggled with "impostor syndrome" this week, but I'm sure that will pass.

It's weird to think that the hashtag #yegcc directly includes me now.

The City of Edmonton has declared today, March 21, as Save Soil Day. I was at City Hall for the presentation of the official proclamation, and to speak to the gathered group about our recent Senate report on soil health. Tomorrow, the Save Soil group hosts a free double-bill at Campus Saint-Jean theatre: first, the documentary film Common Ground, followed by a one-woman show by Dale Hamilton called She Won’t Come in From the Fields. #yeg #yegcc #Edmonton #SenateofCanada #ualberta #SoilHealth

Every time the Edmonton city budget needs to be adjusted yet again because of new costs related to salary increases & backpay, remember: It was a choice to continue to avoid settling contracts with municipal unions for years, while inflation was very high.

After arbitration, Edmonton firefighters now have a contract: for the years 2019-2023. (And the 10.3% net increase in pay is still way less than the 5-year 18% increase in Canada's consumer price index.)

CBCEdmonton firefighters awarded retroactive 5-year deal with the city after arbitration | CBC NewsFirefighters in Edmonton have been awarded a retroactive deal with the city after five years without a contract. The contract that was just awarded expired at the end of 2023, so firefighters and the city are expected to begin bargaining again soon.
