I sense this opinion also bleeding out into a ready dismissal of adults who bike: "certainly they must be playing at it!!"

While I agree with a lot of this, something I'd like to see return is parking minimums to help push 8- and 10-plexes to block corners. Even a 0.4 requirement would help guide these developments to where they should be, not mid-block.
I've heard this on the doors time and time again across our mature neighbourhoods and folks agree this would help fill this gap.

Every time the Edmonton city budget needs to be adjusted yet again because of new costs related to salary increases & backpay, remember: It was a choice to continue to avoid settling contracts with municipal unions for years, while inflation was very high.
After arbitration, Edmonton firefighters now have a contract: for the years 2019-2023. (And the 10.3% net increase in pay is still way less than the 5-year 18% increase in Canada's consumer price index.)
