Jazz Day Radio! Fuse ‘n Flow on bigeradio.com; 11am Alberta, 1pm ET, 6pm UK, 7PM Germany, 8pm Ukraine

Today's 2-hour show is a celebration of the Sax in jazz, with the last 37-odd minutes spotlighting a masterpiece of an album in its entirety - John Coltrane's Giant Steps. Before Coltrane, we'll hear from YEG's Jacob Do from his new EP recorded live at the Yardbird Suite, alongside NYC's Roxy Coss, DC's Lakecia Benjamin, Sonny Rollins, Cannonball Adderley and more

Hey #YEG folks:

Do you know of a place in town I can sell my used musical instruments and audio equipment?

I have:
Mid-range Roland drum kit
Full-sized electronic keyboard
Mackie 8-channel mixer

Thanks!

"Free Buses Would Mean 12% Faster Rides And 20% More Riders: Study

Want faster buses? Make them free. The benefits will end up paying for themselves, says Charles Komanoff."

Two caveats: 1) This is for NYC where people ALREADY rely on public transit. In a transit-dead city like #yeg, the increase in ridership would reduce automobile traffic much more, which would have a drastic effect on road congestion.

And 2) The difference in travel rate gained by all-door boarding has already been reduced significantly by the introduction of tap cards. The 12% figure you see here accounts for that reduction, otherwise it would have been 22%. Tapping still takes time though, and eliminating that fare would be significant, but even more significant would be the removal of front-door entry restrictions caused by fare payment.

Both these factors of increased travel speed and fare elimination would increase ridership greatly, but would also fund a much more robust public transit system and make it much more reliable and safer in every other way. More ridership would remove all the barriers of unreliability and drive out undesirable elements that make riders feel unsafe. The net benefit to all, whether they use transit or not, is a massive reduction in our public infrastructure costs which are strained by the inefficient use of automobiles, insane traffic congestion, and absolutely unacceptable levels of danger to survive in the city with all the automobile traffic.

It doesn't matter how you personally get around, EVERYONE will benefit from increased transit ridership, whether you're a parent who wants to survive a walk with kids to school, a cyclist who wants to survive commuting to work, an elderly person who wants to survive walking to the grocery store, a transit rider, OR an automobile driver who wants to get somewhere instead of being stuck in all the traffic caused by unnecessary car use!

Earlier this evening, we were scooting from the Riverhawks game when I was struck in the chest with something propelled by a slingshot just west of Churchill Square in the 102 Ave bike lane.

It came from the passenger seat of a black crew cab Ford truck. If it were to have hit me in the face it probably would have been a different story.

I’m so tired of the BS downtown and paying for a billionaire’s phase 2 of his pet project isn’t going to fix it.

New Edmonton Transit Trip Planner web app:

tripplanner.edmonton.ca/

Has some nice extra options like maximum walking distance, preferred start/end route #, and mobility-accessible transfers. Includes suburban transit systems.

The UI is a bit janky & buggy (got a "NaN min" time estimate when expanding a trip that was now past 🤨). Not a PWA.

Location search is OK. Address, intersection, or a business name as it'd be in a phone book. It doesn't need you to add the NW to everything.

tripplanner.edmonton.caINFO-Web Transit InformationINFO-Web Trip Planner allows you to plan a trip, view upcoming departure times, and to view the positions of vehicles in real time.

a northeast diamond in the rough - cross the henday pedestrian bridge at 153 ave to the east side of the river. hang a right and the pavement ends after 100m, yielding a rough gravel path that continues on towards the refineries and sherwood park.

not for roadies. bring knobbies.
