#DonaldTheDeplorable was rightly excoriated by General Mark Milley for grotesquely referring to #American soldiers who died during #WorldWar1 - and other wars - as “#SuckersAndLosers.”

#Trump was wrong, as usual. But #PeteHegseth selected enough actual young suckers and losers at #FortBragg - who joined the #military AND the #MAGA cult - to make it look like the #military supports his blatant violation of #PosseComitatus Act. rollingstone.com/politics/poli

The Scottish American Memorial, or Scots American War Memorial, is in West Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh. It was called "The Call 1914", and it was erected in 1927 and shows a kilted infantryman looking towards Castle Rock. Behind the main statue is a frieze showing queues of men answering the call by following a kilted pipe band. The memorial was given by Scottish-Americans to honour Scots who had served in the first World War.

Lest we forget.

Not only was #inflandersfields created at this place, indeed the youngest fallen hero is buried here: #vjstrudwick is told to have fallen at the age of 15 - unbelievable and sad! 😢 Lest we forget all those who gave their utter sacrifice for freedom - true heroes they were!

On April 22nd, 1915, German soldiers used Chlorine #gas for the first time in World War I, opening yet another dark chapter in warfare. It happened at in the area around Ypres and was just the beginning.

I had the luck to visit many remembrance sites in Ypres during the last years and the memories still last. Read my thoughts on the first World War in Belgium here:
