@ezra personally I think #Apple should be forced.to implement #AV1 & #WebM and that @EUCommission could mandate #OpenStandards.
Also if #H265 wasn't #patented and facing #PatentTrolls and #rentseekers we'd see way better quality there as well.
And yes, Apple (#MPEGLA-Member) is at the root of the problem!

#38c3 recordings and indeed pretty much all https://media.ccc.de/ content is just fine at 75% smaller download sizes: #webM & lower resolution. Unless a presentation contains lots of source code ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thank you #c3voc for offering that, and for probably having spent many hours improving the conversion settings
@getimiskon That being said there's nothing wrong using #GIMP and I'd rather use that than to ever give #Adobe or #AVID money.
So yeah, I do want to see #Linux ports of #Affinity's Suite and #Blackmagicdesign to step up their Support of #DavinchiResolve for Linux outside of #CentOS & #RHEL Workstation and at least on the #paid version get #FeatureParity to the #macOS & #Windows version in terms of #Codecs (or at least implement support for those not subject to #licensing like #AV1, #VP9 / #WebM & #Opus, #Vorbis & #Speex.
GNOME Screen Recording is an application built into the GNOME desktop environment that allows users to record their desktop or specific application activities. The recordings are saved as video files in the WebM format in the Videos/ directory.
To start the recording, press the Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R keyboard shortcut. To stop the recording, press the same Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R keyboard shortcut again.

Sitting here watching a #Kurzgesagt #video and it has me wondering....
Their videos are basically #vector #graphics and vector drawings, no doubt rendered to an #MP4 video or something similar (#WebM, etc.)
Think about how much bandwidth would be saved if we could actually stream vector #animations!
In other words, we need to create and/ or bring back an open-source version of Adobe (Macromedia) #Flash!

The last days i wanted to deliver a video (as a static video file) on my webserver to friends. Personally i mostly use #vp9 / #opus codec in #webm container. This worked everywhere but on #iOS. I do not have an Iphone so i could not test it before.
I tried to get vp9 working (and ask friends to test again), but couldn't get it work, though there are many announcements that Safari will supports it (in 2020). Then i tried #h265 / #hvec in mp4 container because Iphones use this for encoding their recorded videos. So i thought this must work. But also that did not work.
Afterwards i found this guide who tells that #Safari only accepts #h264 static video files. Everything else has to be delivered by #HLS. Does anyone knows why? Is there a technical reason why accepting h265 videos in hls but not in static file? https://developer.apple.com/documentation/webkit/delivering_video_content_for_safari
During my research i found many different arguments why iPhones did not support vp9 (due to missing hardware decoders or because it increases code complexity). I can understand that but i can not tell you if this is the real reason (or just because its a standard of Google). But on the otherside i found information that Apple supports VP9 with HLS. but does not say this official.
PS: I know i could just use standard h264 encoding, but i wanted to have small video size and i thought that ios will accecpt at least any format that is newer than h264.

- #Blender is the default for #3D modelling in #Games since it spits out models that every #GameEngine and not just #Godot can handle.
- #KaliLinux and espechally #Wireshark are industry standard tools.
- #WebM (#VP8+#Vorbis) & #AV1 (#VP9+#Opus) are the standard for #WebVideos due to #Google defaulting.to them on #YouTube.
- #Lame is the default #MP3 Encoder for a shitload of #embedded devices.
@Edent @Jeremiah still not the case 3 years later! This is the best kind of result we have achieved to get using @brion ogv.js http://library.kiwix.org/viewer#ted_en_technology. Last main problems are around fullscreen feature. Fortunately, only Apple users suffer of this impairing lack of support of #Webm (and related codecs). #foss
