Modal interfaces open a wealth of possibilities, but yeah, keeping track of the state is awful. Changing the color of the background? Hrm. Changing the size and color of the cursor, as well as adding a colored circle on the mode-line wasn't quite enough. Practice helps.

Having #vi's _insert mode/state_ be normal #emacs keybindings helps... another benefit of using meow?

@itsfoss because we also use it at work and I prefer the fact that at the end of the line it doesn't just jump to the next one. Deleting also remains with x on a line. And without i or a or o you can't write at all. I like that very much.

Heh! You are talking to someone who actually used vi from a televideo 910+ many years ago. The cursor keys on a 910+ are laid out in the same way as this, below the right shift key.

Not that vi on the system understood them at the time, mind you. I'm talking genuine Joy vi, here. I had some fun messing about with stevie (downloaded from comp.sources.unix) to get it to handle arrow keys. (-:

OK - so I will give a chance to #BSSG from @stefano, maybe this time my observations and notices find easier way to be published.
Anyway assuming they #nano is available on classical #macOS installation is too optimistic 😉 (EDITOR env var was not set).
I strongly suggest to put #vi (#ed is also save default 💥). Where is the place to put such suggestions?
