電車と水上バスを乗り継いで、伝統的なオランダの風車が保存されている世界遺産「キンデルダイク(Kinderdijk)」にやってきた。そのほとんどが海抜0メートル地帯の堤内(陸地側)から河川側の堤外へ水を段階的に排水して新たな土地の開拓、地盤沈下や浸水の防止が目的で作られたもので、排水システムはシンプルな水車ではあるものの、風車の配置はかなり計画的に複数の風車が連動して段階的に排水していく先人の知恵であることを実際に本物を見て体感できた。風車の中は管理人一家が住まうコンパクトな住居一体型になっており、最盛期の風車メンテナンスにアサインされていた人的リソースの規模とその生活も垣間見れて、オランダの風土を感じられる記憶に残るフィールドワークとなった。アレンジしてくれた馬場くんに感謝！
