An interesting take on the long-suffering 'switch to Linux' that folks have been trying to make for as long as I can recall.

I've made no secret of my swap, nor of some of the issues I've run across (though I haven't mentioned the occasional GNOME crash I've been trying to isolate down), but I think right now the hardest argument to make is one of inertia - we're trying to make this argument to people who have always used Windows.

Part of it, I think, is just the fact that we don't have the slickness of Mac for an argument to make. Brushed aluminum and all that. It's nice, it's pretty, and Linux doesn't really have that appeal.

Here's the thing: I don't think this is the way to go about it. Let's look at the website for the moment. Five bullet points of 'why' that amount to the same arguments we're making, a list of what amounts to Linux users group installfests. It feels a little like a rehash of what we've already been trying.

What's the argument, then? I legitimately don't know. Some sort of migration assistant perhaps? Hey, run this, it'll find things we can do in Linux and pull stuff over, like the iPhone/android switch apps maybe. Something to go from "We can do everything you already are" to "Here's proof we do all the stuff you already do, and we're gonna migrate your stuff over so you can run virtually uninterrupted. Installing Linux now!"

I don't know. Something I think about from time to time. 10's impending EOL is a big problem, but I think ultimately it's just gonna wind up with end users clicking away the warnings until something goes hilariously sideways.

I find it difficult to grasp how dangerous the reliance on huge #corporations and #proprietarysoftware is until I hear something like this:

apnews.com/article/icc-trump-s
The chief prosecutor of the #ICC (International Criminal Court) has lost access to his #Microsoft email account due to a #Trump ruling.

#opensource is the most reliable way of setting up critical #technology and, personally, I am finally convinced to #switchtolinux from #Windows.

# Switching to #linux was the best decision of my life, and i'm not exaggerating.

I've learned more in the past four years than in seven years of using #windows. What i've learned is valuable and useful. And i regret nothing but that i didn't switch earlier.

Switching to linux doesn't have to be fun. It will be exhausting, time consuming and frustrating at most times. And this is exactly what you should want.

Trying, breaking and fixing things are essential parts of your learning process. Daily driving linux is a daily learning experience.

I have a #learningdisorder which made me feel useless to the #IT industry. This year i had an internship which changed that completely. My #impostersyndrome and doubts are gone. And i can't even describe how good this feels.

Seeing reports that the installer in #fedora 42 has regressed where #accessibility is concerned. Haven't tested this but given the track record of most #linux distributions over the last few decades it wouldn't surprise me in the least. This is also why people can't always just #switchToLinux. The day distros don't just preach their a system for the people and that everyone should be able to use it, but actually walk the walk and consistently walk the walk is when I might consider giving switching more time and attention. Until then, I'd rather deal with the devil I know

I've been hearing quite some people talk about the #oblivionremaster because of course I follow topics on my #favourite #franchise. One thing I noticed on one of the fora, is that #Linux users are reporting a much more stable experience than Windows users. One person even compared both OS's on the same system.

If anyone needed just one more reason to #SwitchToLinux, there it is 😉.
