6:00AM: 44F, mostly sunny-ish.

Sunny through mid-morning, then clouds move in to set the stage for showers tonight and tomorrow.

It's off an on cloudy/kinda sunny/maybe showery until Saturday, when all bets are off and sun will supposedly rule the day.

My 2 favorite forecast words are back: sprinkles and drizzle. (Double Z words are always fun!)

Monday night there will be sprinkles before 10PM, then drizzle after. Drizzle for early Tuesday as well.

Back when we had sunny days.....

5:30AM: 49F, mostly cloudy.

Very, very, heavy "mist" yesterday. Not *actually* rain as such, but the air was sodden and so was anyone who walked in it.

Our local FB "bitch about all things Sitka" group (that's what I call it. ) has a post about a weather app with a supposed 78F day on June 17th.

Even though a heat wave is forecast for the PNW, the general consensus is that it won't reach up here. Plus lots of questioning of the forecaster's sanity.

5:45AM: 48F, light rain.

It rained all last night and continues today. NWS is temporarily not updating online, but my weather app says there should be "intermittent clouds" next Wed.

I'm absolutely wallowing in my pleasure at this turn of events. However, I'm hiding my light under a bushel 'cause there's some folks around here who are becoming positively feral from the lack of sun.

Here it is, the last day of May, and no warmer weather in sight.

I'm heading to Albuquerque the first of July (yeah - New Mexico in July, I'm definitely nuts) where I am almost sure I'll be able to wear my summer clothes.

No, Virginia, not this week.

We have another gale force low zipping through today, bringing more rain. Higher totals in the south panhandle, which Ketchikan does NOT need. They had another landslide, although thankfully no-one was hurt. Significant property damage, though, and people were evacuated in case of further slides.

6:00AM: 53F, light rain.

It's HEEErrrre. We have ourselves an atmospheric river.

We're forecasted for up to half an inch, while Ketchikan is feeling the brunt. They have 1.31" in the last 24 hours. I'll predict they hit 3" in the next 24.

The amount of rain doesn't matter to me...just the fact that it's raining at all puts a spring in my step this...spring.

The tourists (just a smidge under 3000) will be getting a dose of "typical" today.

The glorious gloom has finally arrived!

It rained steadily throughout the night (or at least it was raining those times I woke up.) We have an atmospheric river coming in Wed. Gloom squared!

I also learned that IVT stands for Integrated Water Vapor Transport: A measure of the total amount of water vapor being transported through a vertical column of air.

The IVT value is high for midweek.

No walkies for me!

The heavy rain is taking its own sweet time getting here. Evidently it's now slated for this afternoon, then heavy for the next few days..

I will hold out hope and take my (vacation day!!!) walk this morning...just in case.

7:00AM: 49F, Overcast.

It was cloudy and windy yesterday for Porch Fest 2025. (Evidently the "real" rain is coming tonight.)

Not a big turnout and a bit more subdued than years past, although I was able to re-up my Sitka Conservation Society membership and get this bitchin' new t-shirt.
