Given the state of the U.S. /weary/ I need to prioritize some long-delayed things. I've asked this before and dug around, but couldn't find any confirmation/denial. I don't know what country my server (Mas.to) @trumpet is based in. I think it'd be best for me to be on a server hosted elsewhere if it's not.

If you can help with info on my server or a safer alternative, please let me know.

@DenOfEarth @ytc1 @aka_pugs well #WindowsNT owned the workstation market because #Vendors like #SGI & #Sun failed to innovate...

  • Abeit sgi hals self-inflicted that by removing the reasons to buy their stuff when they switched to #Itanium #CPU|s and #nvidia #GPU|s and not developing #IRIX any further!

#SunMicrosystems at least didn't stall in terms of #Software, but once #Oracle acqured them and started shaking down Sun Technology users for "#IP infringement" and "License Violations" they basically made using anythibg but #Linux a bad choice on #Servers!

@ChrisPirillo I remember when some #TechYoutuber showcased one.

I came across the #Fail2Ban #docker image from #linuxserverio and thought to myself that it's finally time to set up Fail2Ban. I admit i never used it before and it was a bit difficult to add it to my #playbook as all of my #servers have different services and therefore different #logfile paths, but that's nothing #jinja #templating can't fix.

Now that i've got #Discord notifications for banned #IPs, it's time to work on actual #IPblocking. I also want to use the #IPComplaint and #AbuseIPDB actions as i really like the idea of reporting abuse (even though i have no idea how effective that may be).

I may also want to replace the discord #webhook with #email notifications later as that's mostly the reason i've set up a #mailserver ( #stalwart ) in the first place.

I mean, most of my services are only accessible from #tailscale or my #homenetwork, but since #Ansible makes it so much easier to apply higher standards, i just can't resist. My #homelab is changing every day and i think setting up additional #security, even though i don't need it yet, is never a bad idea.

I feel like using server managers that do not use containers to deploy apps are like past decade tools.

I get the idea behind having a classic LAMP stack on a VPS, but today I'm developing, testing and deploying in the same container blueprint (minus the environment variables, of course).

Looking for trans-friendly, justice-informed and longer-than-500 chars servers. Love where I am, except for the char limit, and sometimes I worry that with moderation this consistent, there are aspects of Fedi I'm missing out on, not because they're truly problematic, but because some jag got them banned sometime. Thoughts and suggestions are both welcome! Thank you!

hey selfhosting photographer people of the internet, question for you!

I want to selfhost some sort of photo sharing app with really granular permissions

I want to share my photos, preferably in one place. I think (looking for input!) that I would be able to sort of "tag" an image with permissions. For example "public" or "friends" and/or "family"

Anyone.. know of something for that?
Piwigo, Lychee and Chevereto might be options.

Usually I rant about bad #hardware. Given my personal "closeness" to physical #servers, such failed hardware parts are mostly hard drives but sometimes also broken solid state drives.

But in fairness, there are also some very good products out there. This post is about such a surprisingly well behaving #SSD from #Sandisk.
