RC2014<p>Less than a month to go until <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/RC2014Assembly" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RC2014Assembly</span></a> ! Quazar<p>Another demo of my new SAA1099P Soundchip Interface for RC2014 &amp; Compatibles.</p><p>I've quickly knocked together some code into a ROM chip to play E-Tracker music via the SAA1099P soundchip interface. (E-Tracker is chiptune tracker software for the SAM Coupe.) </p><p>Hardware in use...</p><p>* SAA1099P Soundchip Interface <br>For all the information on this please see my website with all my RC peripherals and expansions at:<br><a href="https://2014.samcoupe.com" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">2014.samcoupe.com</span><span class="invisible"></span></a><br>(I've also got the interface listed on Tindie and eBay.)</p><p>* SID Soundchip Interface<br>- My first peripheral for the RC2014 from June 2020, but of course here the SID isn't being used. What is being used is the interrupt controller on the card to generate 50 interrupts a second for accurate triggering of the music playback routine. (It can generate 50/60/100Hz interrupts - ideal for lots of chiptune uses!)</p><p>* RC2014 Mini v1.1 with my custom ROM.</p><p>* SC112 Backplane</p><p><a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Quazar" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Quazar</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/RC2014" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RC2014</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/SAMCoupe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SAMCoupe</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/chiptune" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>chiptune</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/synth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>synth</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/demoscene" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>demoscene</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/hardware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hardware</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Z80" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Z80</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/computing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>computing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a></p>
RC2014<p>I feel bad that there haven't been any <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/RC2014" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RC2014</span></a> updates recently, despite the fact that there's a lot going on.<br>A lot of things seems to be depending on everything else, leading to an all-or-nothing workload. I think there is going to be a flurry of new releases towards the end of the month (or early September) though. </p><p>In the meantime, if you can make it to <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/RC2014Assembly" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RC2014Assembly</span></a> at Bletchley Park on September 20th, <a href="https://rc2014.co.uk/3855/rc2014-assembly-v1-0/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">rc2014.co.uk/3855/rc2014-assem</span><span class="invisible">bly-v1-0/</span></a> it would be great if you can sign up - particularly if you have something interesting to display or show off.</p>
The Penguin of Evil<p>Trying to work out what to do with a box of Netbooks. I've got a few I use for consoles for <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/rc2014" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rc2014</span></a> and the like but a definite surplus.</p>
RC2014<p>One of the nice things about <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/RC2014Towers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RC2014Towers</span></a> is that I now have quite a large, well lit area for <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/RC2014" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RC2014</span></a> photo shoots.</p>

While originally designed to replace a chip on Ed Brindley's RC2014 YM/AY soundcard it's ideal for other circuits where you use an AY to play ZX Spectrum music.</p><p>The ZXTT provides a clock signal to the soundchip of 1.7734MHz to match the 128K ZX Spectrum ensuring that playback of Speccy tunes is pitch (and envelope!) perfect. (A video on my page shows how much distortion a clock of 1.75MHz gives, which is often used for Speccy related AY circuits.)</p><p><a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/rc2014" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rc2014</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/soundchip" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>soundchip</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/zxspectrum" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zxspectrum</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/computing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>computing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/hardware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hardware</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/chiptune" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>chiptune</span></a></p>

Ben A L Jemmett<p>Going to be going live in about 45 minutes with one more RC2014-related project: in a somewhat surprising turn of events, a viewer has donated an MG005 Speech Synthesizer kit for me to build. RC2014<p>I love how sharp the <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/RC2014" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RC2014</span></a> logo has come out. Running a kiss-cut around it after the engrave really helps to darken it up. I think I should have done that with the rest of the lines and text on here too. Shellac has made the cherry veneer look great, but I still want to try wax and oil finishes.</p>
RC2014<p>Got wood?</p><p>Sorry, I had to pixelate some parts of the images to comply with the UK Online Safety Act. There should still be enough there to tease you though. Can you imagine toggling in a program on this beauty?</p><p><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/RC2014" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RC2014</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/RealComputersAreMadeOfWood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RealComputersAreMadeOfWood</span></a></p>

RC2014<p>Thanks everybody that responded, and sorry for not responding to every reply. </p><p>I think the results have confirmed my original thoughts. I will certainly be making a feature of the fact that this computer will run on just 3 chips, so hopefully that will keep the 26% that felt cheated happy.</p><p>As for the 36% Intrigued and 31% Curious, well, you should be. I won't go in to the details just yet, but I'm sure you won't be disappointed.</p><p>There's some updates needed to the prototype, but if all is well, some time next month I will introduce the latest kit to the <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/RC2014" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RC2014</span></a> stable.</p>
