Any recommendations for decent used external SAS units? I have literally filled my tower with drives and need moar space. Something used I can get on the cheap is great, something new that isn't awful is also fine. I need to ideally reclaim some space in the unit, for that matter... I can get creative, but in doing so I'll be in "these aren't spots where hard drives were meant to go" territory.

4 to 8 is ideal, I'll never complain about larger.

So ungefähr stelle ich mir das auch vor:
OS auf 2 NVME im RAID 1, dazu das #Datengrab auf HD, mittelfristig dann - zusätzlich zu einem echten Backup - ebenfalls als RAID 1.

Die #RAID würde ich mittels #ZFS machen.

Als OS käme wahrscheinlich #Proxmox zum Einsatz. Das habe ich früher schon mal beruflich eingesetzt, bin also etwas damit vertraut, auch wenn sich da inzwischen viel getan hat (so eben ZFS).

Dann kommt in eine #VM #HomeAssistant und in eine andere VM z.B. #TrueNAS, an das ich das Datengrab durchreiche.

Dann spare ich mir, händisch #Freigaben über #Samba zu erstellen und das ganze #Usermanagenent auf der Konsole.

Both ZFS and Btrfs are advance file systems designed for Linux. They both offer features like RAID, compression, and snapshots.

But ZFS is generally considered more mature, reliable, and robust. ZFS is also a popular solution for enterprise.

Btrfs is more Linux-centric solution. Btrfs tends to be easier to integration and use with the Linux kernel.
