If you're like me, you've probably become overly-reliant on your phone and #weather and #radar apps to see what is happening and what is on the way regarding your local forecast.
Living in the US, access to apps and info is going to become more unreliable over the next few years because of the current administration.
This makes me mad as hell!
I don't have the time or funds this year to climb the steep hill of investing in and learning #amateurradio, and I don't have the resources to set up my own #weatherstation at home yet. That is a goal, though, that I've had for a few years; it's about a $2000 investment, and it's top of the list (after paying down the $1000+ veterinarian debt from Shado's passing last month).
This article covers some of the basic "old school" ways that people in the past would figure out short-term weather. The coffee one is kinda hilarious.
It seems imperfect and witchy, and I wouldn't rely on the tells 100% because the animals seem as confused as us right now, BUT, the overall point is -- maybe we do need to get back into touch with whatever the hell is going on around us, and especially pay attention to nature again because we are a part of it.
I am all for that as well as using my apps until they don't work anymore.
Layering the two practices seems like it could combine a new richness of lived experience with my penchant for preparedness. I do love clouds and animals -- and coffee.
