Morgen, 31.5., sind wir an der TUHH (Gebäude A) in Hamburg-Harburg und machen eine kleine Assembly beim Norddeutschen Funktag — im Raum oben schräg gegenüber vom Flohmarkt.

Bei uns gibt es Pager/POCSAG und voraussichtlich auch ein wenig Meshtastic, also besucht uns gern oder grüßt mal auf Long Fast :)

@kallemp I did in fact already thought about a similar project and device.

  • As for the anonymous reading / recieval: Using license-free #ISM bands like 27MHz #CB radio to send messages & then recieving them like a #pager would work, only making the transmitter detectable during trabsmission via triangulation, which may have a too narrow window of a few seconds given #OTP doesn't have #PGP-Style overhead. Making it feasible for using #POCSAG even...

I merely focussed on airgapped data transfers as being able to do OTP encryption wasn't feasible until the advent of legitimate 1TB microSD cards and thus negligible impact on key logistics, to even then one could update those OTA in a broadcast encrypted with per-user-/device-keys if that's feasible.

Hello world!

We are the work group "Signalspielplatz" ('signal playground') from Northern Germany.

We brought our first prototype of a DIY POCSAG pager and transmitter to #38c3, where we took the opportunity to test the setup under congress conditions, as well as present the pager (link down below).

Our next step will be to test an improved prototype at EasterHegg 22. More updates and a website coming soon, so follow us to stay informed.

@CStamp @persagen whilst it's easy to attribute #Unit8200 for that, I'd say this is a too easy kind of explaination as it would be in the best interest if the #IDF to keep enemies like #Hezbollah in blissful ignorance about their #vulnerable #tech whilst maximizing #SIGINT effectiveness by not giving them a reason to implement secure #comms.

To me that sounds like a project some recruit of that unit would've to plan as a means to qualify for membership of that unit.

  • It doesn't make sense to pull that #PagerHack off given it's quite newly deployed (older batteries would've more reliably and faster gone critical due to #Overdischarge!) and having pulled this #exploit also means Hezbollah will clearly fix those issues, starting with devices using #NiCd or #LiFePO4 batteries if not employing proper #E2EE instead of using insecure & #unencrypted #POCSAG...

But since I'm not getting paid for fixing that shitshow AND don't work with or for terrorists (!!!) I won't plug any projects that would've prevented this...

Fortgeführter Thread

Heute einen #POCSAG-#Funkruf-#Sender runtergeladen (github.com/cn0xroot/gr-pocsag-) und auf den #HackRF #SDR geworfen.

Nachdem ich #gnuradio inkl. Zubehör komplett neu kompiliert und ein paar kleinere Anpassungen gemacht habe, läuft es nun und der #Pager empfängt meine Testmeldungen fehlerfrei.

Der Pager ist somit ok und die beobachteten Probleme scheinen auf zu geringe Stärke/Qualität des #DAPNET-Signals in Kombination mit der POCSAG-Fehlerkorrektur zurückzuführen zu sein.

Heute ist mein #Alphapoc-#Pager für das #DAPNET-#Amateurfunk-#POCSAG-Netz eingetroffen (ein Pager ähnlich den #Skyper damals in den 90ern und wie ihn heutzutage noch die Feuerwehr verwendet).

Grundsätzlich geht es, aber die Nachrichten kommen nur verstümmelt an. Merkwürdigerweise sind die Fehler reproduzierbar immer an der selben Stelle und in der selben Form, was eher gegen Empfangsprobleme spricht. 🤔

Mysteriös. Am Wochenende noch mal tiefer in die (sehr umfangreichen) Einstellungen schauen.
