The Seagull #Nebula
The Seagull Nebula, resembling a bird in the sky, spans 3.5 degrees near Sirius in Canis Major. Its head, IC 2177, contains star HD 53367 within a mix of glowing gas and dust. The region extends over 200 light-years, 3,800 light-years away, shaped by supernovae and marked by runaway star FN Canis Majoris' bow shock.

Astronomers using #JWST have captured compelling evidence of a #planet with a mass similar to Saturn orbiting the young nearby #star TWA 7.
If confirmed, this would represent Webb’s first direct image discovery of a planet and the lightest planet ever seen with this technique outside the solar system.

Identifying the formation period of planetary systems, such as our solar system, could be the beginning of the journey to discover the origin of life.
The key to this is the unique substructures found in protoplanetary disks—the sites of #planet formation.
A protoplanetary disk is composed of low-temperature molecular gas and dust, surrounding a #protostar.
If a planet exists in the disk, its #gravity will gather or eject materials within the disk, forming characteristic substructures such as rings or spirals. In other words, various disk substructures can be interpreted as "messages" from the forming #planets.

If you've never seen the #planet #Mercury and you have a clear view toward the west, tonight's your night (24th June 2025). Look west-northwest about 40 minutes after sunset and see three bright objects forming a line parallel to the horizon. The brightest object, on the left, is Mercury. The other two objects are the Pollux and #astor, the brightest stars in the #constellation #Gemini.

MESSENGER spacecraft images reveal unusual, slightly bluish hollows on Mercury, distinct from impact craters and unique in the Solar System. These features may have formed by sublimation after the Raditladi basin impact. MESSENGER is the first probe to orbit Mercury, with its mission ongoing until 2013.
