Well - Lost Paradise, Gothic, Shades of God, Icon and Draconian Times were as I remembered: increasingly good. One Second was a Depeche Mode departure, and Host was surprisingly OK.

Believe In Nothing was terrible, but we’re clambering out of the hole on Symbol of Life - and I’ve been taken by surprise by the Small Town Boy cover! I’m not sure it really works because Somerville’s original vocal performance was iconic, and Holmes’ vocals just aren’t as distinctive.

Next up: the eponymous one…

Since Paradise Lost are playing in Bristol later this year, I have decided to work through their discography. PL were a formative band for me - I remember hearing “Ember’s Fire” on the Radio 1 Rock Show as a kid and finding it electrifying, I’d never heard anything like it.

I’m up to Draconian Times so far. The quality (and production!) is definitely improving. That said, this album is pretty much where I stopped listening to them regularly for some reason so looking forward to hearing what they did afterwards. I know it all changes up a bit!
