Before selling the zip disk drive, I recorded a short video of how to insert and reject a zip disk.

Anybody remember the Zip disk?

It was an alternative to the floppy disk for data storage - until USB sticks took over.

I just found another one, but sadly, I sold my dad's Zip drive on eBay a few years ago.

At the end of last year I did try to convince my father to continue using his old PC instead of buying a new one which can run Win11.
Sadly he was like "I do not want to try getting my software to work, I want to turn it on and it should run just like before.
I did not know how I could argue with a statement like this. How would you approach something like this?
What do you tell people to convince them to continue using there old Hardware?

eeepc on my basement server rack. Circa 2015. I had a separate cat 6 network set up just for backups. I played around with synchronized mysql dbs. I also had a BananaPi running off an SSD on the shelf next to this. Good times.

slinging around 15GB of timelapse images and videos between computers is still a challenge even on a relatively modern home network….

I've come to the conclusion that unfortunately #footiMac simply won't be up to the task of creating month-long timelapses for all 3 cameras. Hardware acceleration simply doesn't appear to be supported with the old AMD RV470 based chip.

I just sent the archive over to my more modern 2018 iMac running MacOS X and ffmpeg happily used software/CPU for the mjepg and videotoolbox acceleration for the h264 “mjpeg (native) -> h264 (h264_videotoolbox)” on the first try.

It's encoding at 30fps, which is half-speed of the video itself, whereas #footiMac could barely manage 1fps. The IMac will be done in about 30minutes where #footiMac took 15 hours.

So ya... I'll have footiMac send over the timelapses to the iMac for processing.

Trying out LibreELEC on my very old netbook. Can't play some movies without the video lagging on my Raspberry Pi 3B+. Maybe the additional 200MHz on the processor and the whopping 400 MHz graphics processor will fix it.
