#Doorsday is here! 🚪

I live in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, but my company is based in Bavaria (and so is my employment contract). This means I have an unexpected holiday today (Corpus Christi), because I get to enjoy the Bavarian ones (of all 16 German states, Bavaria has the most public holidays, hehehe 😌)!
Fun fact: The city of Augsburg has a unique additional holiday that is limited to the city area! However, in my company, only the employees who are based in Augsburg, get the day off.

To celebrate my lazy day, today's #door is from #Augsburg Town Hall, and I love the wooden ornaments here! They are so humble yet very artistic.
The Town Hall itself is one of the most significant secular #Renaissance buildings north of the Alps. It was designed and built by Master Builder Elias Holl in 1615–1624. The Town Hall is most famous for its Golden Hall ("Goldener Saal"), but it's undergoing renovations and is mostly closed until 2026. Bold colours for a humble and unique housing complex – welcome to this week's #Doorsday!

This #door is one of the entrances of the #Fuggerei in #Augsburg. It is a walled public housing complex with 67 houses (containing 140 apartments in total) that was founded by Jakob Fugger the Rich in 1516 as a place for needy citizens. You need to be a citizen of Augsburg, of the Catholic faith, and have become indigent without debt in order to qualify for one of the Fuggerei housing units. If you tick all the boxes, you still pay only 1 Rhenish gulden rent per month (equivalent to €0.88) like in the good old times. Well, plus utilities (around €85/month in 2013), and you have to make three prayers a day for the current owners. The gates are locked at night and the 150 residents have to pay the watchman a small fee if they return later than 10pm.
The Fuggerei was destroyed twice (Thirty Year's War + WWII), but always restored. Today, you can visit the complex and its museum, the entrance fee goes towards the upkeep. A charitable trust, established by the wealthy founder in 1520, supports the project and is carefully managed by the #Fugger family to this day.

2023/058 - Alter Bahnhof.

Der alte Bahnhof vom ehem. Gaswerk Leopoldau ist jetzt der "Eingang" zum neuen Stadtviertel Neu Leopoldau. Das Gebäude liegt direkt auf dem Weg zu Arbeit, ich gehe/fahre jeden Tag daran vorbei. Ich kann mir nicht helfen, aber ich muss jedes Mal an Studio Ghibli Mangas denken, wenn ich daran vorbeigehe. Ich rechne mindestens mit kleinen weißen Waldgeistern.
