Mario Kart World's setup is so odd, they made this whole giant cohesive map, shoved Free Roam at the bottom of the main menu.

Between Stickers and Manual. then made the "default" modes standard MK courses that don't really show off the map and come off as oddly boring. The "world map" basically translates to sorta straight line intermission courses in the grand prix.

Surely it always meant to be more like burnout paradise/Forza Horizon but they backed out?

Publisher: "We've got a New Mode!"

Me: "Is it Battle Royale?"

Publisher: "Haha, it's a fun mode Ma'am, just play it."

Okay, I relent. The Baby Mario characters belong in Mario Kart.

I just heard Baby Daisy laugh with infantile glee at obliterating another racer with a bullet.

This is the essence of Mario Kart: A spiteful, horrible baby in a state of aggressive, delirious glee.

I'm so glad Baby Daisy retains Daisy's iconic catchphrase:

So Mario Kart World was totally meant to be Open World FIRST and they had to rush to make it Grand Prix focused, classic style, right?

There's no other explanation for why Free Roam is so massive yet with almost no trackers, progression, pause menu?

Playing Mario Kart World online, with Middle Kid playing on the couch beside me.

The 'world' concepts works a bit better here, compared to offline. The lobby votes for the next location and then everyone drives from one race venue to the next.

It's hard to really win the online races, with this much chaos going on. But it's in the struggle that one finds meaning.
