And sorry for the blurries in some photos.
1/5 A new art book is ready. I don't know why I craft them nor how to explain what I do. It's an intuitive way of working with colours, textures, mixed media and collage, for seeing, touching, and more. A very #meditative work.
This one was the attempt to find something beautiful in our maize #monocultures that I detest.
Just browse my book here.

#Malawi: Consumption of whole #maize flour could boost #foodsecurity. Dehulling causes losses of 10% for #protein, 60% for #zinc & 50% for iron. Local preferences are for refined #flour due to convenience & cultural norms, despite the #nutrition benefits of whole grain flour: https://doi.org/10.1007/s44187-025-00311-y

China's policy to increase #soybean & corn production and decrease #meat consumption can diminish 3rd country's #exports to China. (Due to the rise of obesity-related #health problems, the government plans to reduce meat consumption by half): https://doi.org/10.1002/aepp.13462 #China #trade #maize #corn
A Mexican #import ban of GM #corn causes considerable #trade reallocations: #Mexico imports from more expensive sources, the #USA export to more distant countries, and #welfare decreases in many countries, with Mexico incurring large losses: http://doi.org/10.22004/ag.econ.348482 #GMO #maize #consumers #prices
With business-as-usual, global #yields may decline from 2015 to 2080 by -22% for #maize, -15% for #soybeans, -14% for #wheat & -9% for #rice, suggesting benefits from #emissions mitigation. #Gene-editing: Soil bacteria can turn atmospheric #nitrogen into plant-available forms and reduce reliance on #fertilizer. "Europe is grappling with a severe #cereal production crisis, exacerbated by adverse weather conditions, high production costs with stable prices, low quality of output, and stiff competition from Ukraine.
“This season was particularly challenging due to a series of adverse weather events for harvest,” he added, highlighting how droughts in Southeastern Europe and excessive autumn rainfall have negatively impacted both quantity and quality of harvests."

EFSA finds no #foodsafety concerns regarding the toxicity & allergenicity of an insect-resistant GM #maize. Its consumption does not represent a #nutrition concern. The #GMO is as safe as other maize varieties with respect to potential effects on #health & the environment: https://doi.org/10.2903/j.efsa.2024.9059
This year I planted a milpa-inspired bed with #squash #beans and #sorghum in place of #corn / #maize.
Everything grew great! The weird thing, however, was that the beans did not flower. At all. Until after the fall equinox when it was too late for them to mature pods. I planted Frijol Negro Santanero from Rancho Gordo that were grown in #Oaxaca. Turns out, much to my surprise, common beans can be day-length sensitive! I live too far north for this tropical variety.
