My goodness Google has gotten useless.

When I hold the microphone of my qt-60 (mobile 10M radio) to my body, I get more static.

I'm assuming this is because the radio isn't grounded (not "properly", I didn't tie it to the car at all except through it's DC power connector).

Is this on the right track? Will I see better RF performance if I tie the qt-60's ground to the car's frame? Could that also be the source of the high SWR?

It doesn't seem to me like that should impact the actual RF properties, since, you know, I'm sitting in a metal box. But, hey, I'm still learning.

This is my first non-handheld radio, so I'm having to, you know, actually think about how things work.
