Colin<p>Nearly 11 hilly miles along the Dorset coast today past Durdle Door to Lulworth Cove for a quick swim to wash off the sweat and dust. Off to the pub for a beer and dinner and then find somewhere to bivvy down for the night before 20 miles tomorrow to Swanage. Only managed to fall over twice today🙄. Firstly, off the sea wall in Weymouth onto the beach, and then as we arrived in Lulworth Cove I tripped up the steps. And that was before the beer😂🤦🏻 <a href="https://mas.to/tags/trailrunning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>trailrunning</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/fastpacking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fastpacking</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/pratfall" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pratfall</span></a></p>
Colin<p>With a gap between trail marathons until September, I’m planning a two night <a href="https://mas.to/tags/fastpacking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fastpacking</span></a> trip along the Jurassic Coast of Dorset in early July with my wife. After long <a href="https://mas.to/tags/ultramarathons" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ultramarathons</span></a> in December and April it’s great to be aiming for something low stress with flexible timing and nights out under the stars again, and even better to be planning to do it together with the new runner in the family😀 <a href="https://mas.to/tags/trailrunning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>trailrunning</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/running" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>running</span></a></p>

Colin<p>Excited by the arrival of my new Aplkit Hunka bivvy bag. Second hand prices made little sense as Alpkit currently have the bag on offer and I’ve been outbid several times on eBay recently. Weight 353g (compared to 782 for my existing bag, and the Hunka packs to about half the size too). Really looking forward to testing this out. The space saving will allow me to pack more warm gear and hopefully keep <a href="https://mas.to/tags/fastpacking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fastpacking</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/trailrunning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>trailrunning</span></a> into the cooler months without increasing total pack weight😀</p>
Colin<p>Bivouacked approximately 1km south of Pilot Hill, the highest “peak” in the county of Hampshire (England) last night. Weather was mild with light wind. It didn’t rain after all and by midnight the stars were out from behind the clouds. Had a surprisingly good amount of sleep. 50km round trip setting off at 7:30pm and home about 10am today. Saw a barn owl, deer, buzzards and some plants I’d not seen before including Toadflax <a href="https://mas.to/tags/trailrunning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>trailrunning</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/running" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>running</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/fastpacking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fastpacking</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/bloomscrolling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bloomscrolling</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/TheGreenRunners" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TheGreenRunners</span></a></p>
Colin<p>23:25 hrs and I’m tucked up in my sleeping bag on the Hampshire Downs near the highest point in the county after 25km of run/walk. Likely to get a spot of rain in the night which will give the bivvy bag a good test, and possibly give me a good excuse to get a lighter one if it leaks😄 <a href="https://mas.to/tags/fastpacking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fastpacking</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/trailrunning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>trailrunning</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/running" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>running</span></a></p>

I don’t play the light as possible game, it just happens by default by aiming to run what’s runnable.

If I really wanted to cut weight, I’d skip the inflatable matt & pillow, fill sack, bivy, down balaclava, wind layers, half the calories, and power pack. None are needed for a spontaneous overnighter, it’s just nice to have so much spare weight that there’s no reason not to pamper myself.

Back in fall I started looking for a new fastpack. I use a running vest for multi day stuff, but want split setups to specialize.

There’s nothing in the market that fits my needs so I follow experimental ultralight and fastpack custom makers.

Found a guy who’s design is between a run vest and a UL pack and we’ve been working together for 3 months taking my mod requests trying different materials.

I’ll share when it’s done.
