The UK's assisted dying bill may be well-intentioned, but the way it is being developed in the final parliamentary stages is worrying.
There are good arguments for giving a person a free choice on ending their life.
In practice, there will be people who are suffering because of lack of care and who want to escape their suffering. They should be offered proper care in life, not an exit from life.
And there will be many who will come under pressure from their family or doctors to just go. Those cases will be impossible to identify.
People with disabilities will be particularly exposed to these risks.
They may ask to die, simply because they are unsupported in life.
The drafting of the new bill ignores all these concerns.

Ending life with medical assistance is controversial to some, but for my granny #euthanasia was about dignity and staying in control when her body gave up. She died with a smile on her face, surrounded by her loved ones.
