This is and stays one of the most mindblowing and greatest #film (in his genre) of all times. People have to remember that this is before (real) CGI (yeah, ILM helped out with the dress and shadows). Any maybe this is way it 100% holds up today and is even better than modern Cartoon/Human interactions ...

Hey #Fediverse,

I'm a US based consumer who still believes in buying physical media #DVD, #BluRay, etc. I'm trying to not reward a couple of huge companies with my purchasing business (one of which is named after a big river and used to just sell books in the "before times").

Any good recommendations for on-line (or even brick and mortar in the #Chicago suburbs) alternatives for selection, variety, and price?

@GamesMissed Can't say for sure, and Handbrake doesn't seem to emit a lot of useful output.

But first thing I'd try is cleaning the disc. I got a bunch of mysterious errors, always at about the same point on the disc, and it turned out it was just too dirty to read. Handbrake will stop and fail if it can't error-recover enough data, apparently.

Second, I'd try another DVD drive (another computer or physically swap); some are reportedly much better than others.

In Google Summer of Code 2025 there is a proposal that wants to add DVD-Audio support to VLC by implementing a module that decrypts and plays back CPPM-protected audio streams. Using libdvdcpxm and related tools, the module will extract, decrypt, and decode high-fidelity DVD-Audio, ensuring seamless integration with VLC's existing playback architecture.
