Alibaba Cloud shakes up Gartner rankings

Alibaba Cloud has secured leadership positions in two Gartner 2025 Magic Quadrant reports, marking a major leap for the Chinese tech giant in the global cloud computing race.

The company was named a Leader in both Container Management and Cloud-Native Application Platforms, categories long dominated by U.S.-based providers.

The recognition underscores Alibaba Cloud’s expanding influence as enterprises accelerate digital transformation and adopt AI-driven cloud solutions.

Gartner said leaders in the reports stand out for offering adaptable, strategically developed services backed by innovation-focused roadmaps.

Alibaba Cloud’s container management tools provide flexibility across public, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments, enabling faster and more efficient application deployment.

The global container management market topped 2.5 billion dollars in 2024, with Gartner predicting that by 2028, nearly all new AI systems will use Kubernetes.

In cloud-native platforms, Alibaba Cloud’s products such as Serverless App Engine, Function Compute, and Container Compute Service enable rapid scaling and integration of AI-powered applications.

The company also announced upgrades to its container system at this year’s Apsara Conference, improving auto-scaling to handle up to 15,000 pods per minute.

Derzeit habe ich einen #VPS mt #x86 #Architektur, der aktuell noch reicht, aber perspektivisch nicht mehr ausreichen wird.

Aus Kosten-, Effizienz- und Nachhaltigkeitsgründen (#Strombedarf, #Kühlung) würde ich ggf. auf einen #arm64-basierten #Server wechseln.

Das #Linux #Betriebssystem ist kein Problem. #Webserver wie #Apache oder #Nginx, #Datenbanken wie #mySQL, #MariaDB oder #Postgres nativ auf dem Server auch nicht.

Wo ich mir unsicher bin ist beim Thema #Docker #Container. Es wäre fatal, wenn ich das #Dockerimage für Anwendung x installieren will, und es dieses Dockerimage nicht für arm64 gibt. Ich habe nicht die Zeit und Lust, auch noch Dockerimages selbst zu kompilieren.

Derzeit habe ich #Sharkey, #Peeertube, #Collabora und #Matrix mit dem #Synapse, #Element und Synapseadmin-Container als Docker laufen - jede Umgebung jeweils mit Postgres-Container.

Collabora und Peertube gibt's für arm64, Postges ebenfalls. Bei Sharkey habe ich nicht kapiert, ob "Still not working on arm64 environment." inzwischen zuverlässig behoben ist.

Bei Element-Web habe ich (hier https://hub.docker.com/r/vectorim/element-web/) gar keine Info zu arm64 gefunden und deshalb erst mal für die anderen Container auch nicht weiter gesucht.

Wer hat Erfahrungen mit arm64 Servern und Docker?

Wer kann mir sagen, ob Sharkey und die Matrix-Docker-Umgebung für arm64 angeboten wird - und auch wie die x86 Version zuverlässig läuft?

Darin laufen zudem #docker #portainer #dockge #kubernetes und noch mehr Instanzen, dass ich so langsam nicht mehr weiß, wie ich die alle administrieren kann.

Mal ganz abgesehen von den herkömmlichen öffentlichen Servern, die ein #upgrade benötigen.

just made my own fully working mitra docker image and like all my docker images it only requires its own dockerfile. And the best part is that it uses less space then bleakfuture0/mitra:latest
