Inviting the #Fediverse to join another #Jabber / #XMPP channel I co-moderate - the Personal Protective Equipment channel. #PPE

Protect yourself from hazardous substances, #pollution, diseases ( #CovidIsNotOver !), #surveillance, police oppression, and other threats. Or maybe just look cool and cyberpunk.

Discuss cloth #masks, surgical masks, filtering facepiece (FFP) #respirators, reusable #elastomeric respirators (half-face or full-face), source control, powered air purifying respirators (PAPRs), and more!

Discussion of #EyeProtection, #HearingProtection, #HeadProtection and similar also welcome!

You can join without a client or an account. Just visit chat.queer-spark.org/#/guest?join=ppe@conference.queer-spark.org

But for the best experience, I recommend using a proper client. The easiest way is to install Quicksy or Prāv, if you don’t mind using your phone number.

Otherwise, install one or more of the following, and use them to register an account on conversations.im (see providers.xmpp.net or compliance.conversations.im/old for more server recommendations) -

…once you’re set up, open this link to join the channel - invite.joinjabber.org/#ppe@conference.queer-spark.org?join

I'm looking for good primers on perceptual hashing algorithms. Do you know any? Can you boost to help me find someone who does? :neodog_pleading:

Context is that in
#mediathing people may have the same content but with different encodings. E.g. 1080p and 720p copies of Amélie are still the same movie. I'd prefer not to ask people to maintain manual mappings of this (e.g. associating sha256 hashes) because even though spiritually it makes some sense, it's really just toil and media-thing isn't about toil. I think a perceptual hash is probably what I'm looking for because this isn't meant to be used for content identity. It's just to assist people matching their library overlap. But if there's a better technique I'd be very curious to hear about it!

Got to ask: What do you think is a better overall choice for a general purpose tablet form factor device: one that runs a mobile OS (and therefore is probably well familiar with the interface and hardware its working with), or one that runs a full, actual OS like Linux/Win (and therefore is far more flexible and customizable)?
