For those who don't know the size of the problem:

In 2006 I bought a new [entry level] Computer with 256 MB of RAM and a single-core P4 Celeron with 2,8 GHz.

And now imagine that some folks have to use #Slack, #MicrosoftTeams, #Telegram, #Signal, #WhatApp, #WeChat, #QQ and #LineMessenger at the same time on their machine, and you can imagine that this will make entry-level desktops already scream harder than if someone were to loop the Lost Coast benchmark on them...

You may call me an "opinionated asshole" from your point of view, but I sincerely wish I was wrong.

The real cost doesn't come through to #consoomers except as #ReducedLifecycle due to #bloat.

But then again what do I expect from a coward doing the reply & block - combo, because confronting the fact that people got burned out by shit like PHP would mean admitting mistakes, and we can't have that as a fanboy.

Aus Bash Sicht ist das "awk in aqua Farbe" in #code OK. Aber optisch nicht besonders prickelnd.

Nano hingegen interpretiert die embedding Hochkommas nicht und colorriert fleißig weiter... Aus bash Sicht nicht OK - aber sehr geil zu lesen.

Ersten 500 Zeilen habe ich in nano via #ssh aufm #RaspberryPi gemacht - dann in code weiter - was hab ich mich erschreckt...🤪

Disclamer: not a Rust pro by any chances, but following the plot for some time and having 'Learn Rust' in my plans.
Post looks like:

- Your language and ecosystem promotes #bloat and breaking compatibility between lib versions.
- But what about other languages and cross-platform glue-and-sticks ??!!!

Static linking (and it's substitutes like flathub etc.) is evil - see windows ecosystem. Yes, it's cheaper for developer by the cost paid by users (and multiplied by N of users).

Communities, where breaking compatibility, yes, python, I look at you, has become a norm are trapped in the BS of "separate environment for each tiny piece of code" forever. And it creates horrible overhead. #Conda envos with 100k files for each tool which each user creates separately are a nightmare on #HPC systems. Containers with a few GB overhead for each tiny tool are better, but still a massive waste.
Distros, package managers and stable APIs (or even ABIs) are there for a reason and Rust reinvents/abandons all this just because atrocities like npm became normal and it was easier to cut that edge.

  • Es bedarf mehr Fahrzeuge der Klassen #L2e, #L5e & Co. welche deutlich effizienter sind.

Also weniger [Leer-]Gewicht, besserer Cw und damit auch mehr #Reichweite.

  • Ganz davon abgesehen dass in den Leistungsklassen ≤4kW, 4-15kW & 15-35kW sicherlich be Menge mehr machbar ist, wie wir bei Motorrädern sehen können!

Statt #SuperUselessVehicle|s mit €50.000-€100.000+ Verkaufspreis bedarf es Lösungen im Bereich ≤€10.000, wenn nicht sogar ≤€5.000.

Was mich stört ist dass es quasi keine #PersonalLightVehicle|s im Bereich <35kW gibt die per #CCS2-Stecker schnellgeladen werden können und ich auch nur 1 Luxus-#Roller von #BMW kenne welcher bei 15kW Maximalleistung an ner #Ladesäule gem. Ladesäulenverordnung aufladbar ist.
