Took my (new to me) single speed bike for a 15 km loop around town. Fun! I love the freedom of not worrying about gear changes.

In getting the bike prepped (pumping tyres, adjusting seat height and angle), I found that the rear tyre was too big for the frame. I hadn't noticed this when I acquired the bike as the tyres were flat. So one of the stops along the ride was at Balfe's to pick up a more appropriate tyre! (doubled the value of the bike 😆)

The hills in town are more noticeable on this bike, I must admit 😜, but not terrible. Good exercise!

Yesterday, I passed by this really old tree. I believe, it is an oak tree. I stopped, leaned the Brompton against its trunk, and tried to reflect on all the centuries this tree has been standing here. And then I saw the face on the trunk. To me it looks like an owl. An ancient tree with all the wisdom looking at me, this short living creature passing by. The owl seemed to smile, and so did I. My brain just playing tricks on me.

Anyone have experience removing a rear wheel with a sturmey-archer rx-rf5 hub? It looks like I need to remove the cable outer casing from the notch in the fulcrum lever before I can slide the nut out of the cable-anchorage unit. But how do you get that cable+casing out of the notch? Is it a brute strength thing? Do I need to really push on it/use pliers? I'm afraid of breaking something. Am I supposed to be pulling the casing towards the shifters in some way?

I'm essentially trying to reverse step 10 here because I'm trying to take the rear wheel off the bike: sturmey-archer.com/files/catal

Experience with this or related hubs only please, these do not use the standard sturmey-archer chain connection.

Parking the bike at a university for a rare talk with undergrads, I spotted an old steel-frame bike that, although rusty, someone has done up with ad hoc mods (?). Rear wheel has a freewheel (on the right, in use) and a fixie gear (on the left). Crank has also been repaired with bolts from a hardware store.

@MrPDaniel @intrepidhero @MightyRedPanda HA! I've never seen one of those broken like that! You just need the right one. This is either a Shimano Tourney RD-TX800 8-speed (direct mount) derailler, about $15, or Shimano Tourney RD-A070 7-speed (direct mountain derailleur). You'll need to look at home many gears on the shifters and/or the rear cogs. It's Shimano because it's marked Dual SIS. Could also be six speed, I guess. #BikeRepair #BikeTooter

Today I remembered to charge my bike, and so I went for another ride to France to get my übersquadrat to 10x10. This is one of my favourite border crossings around here. Just after I passed, the Swiss border guys arrived and closed it. Not sure why it was open cars are not allowed to cross here... #eBike #BikeTooter #EvengRide
