@narF just did a great talk about how to get people to try #BigTech alternatives at a #FediForum session today.
It was very interesting and lots of things to think about.
There are slides available that people can reuse for their own "Ditch big tech" sessions, but I will let narF publicise it, as we also made notes during the session and he might want to add bits.

Thank you narF!

#chatcontrol #eu is @EUCommission still pushing while millions don’t want it. How long how many times will this proposal be on the agenda while until now there was no majority. #bigtech #meta #google #musk #x wants this proposal to go in effect to have acces to all messages photos and documents. They will grab all what they can get. Despite wat eu thinks it could an hold on that.

The U.S. Supreme Court upheld an injunction against Google, siding with Epic Games in a major antitrust case. Google must now allow external payments and rival app stores on Android a huge win for developers and consumer choice that could reshape Big Tech regulation.

Hey @bitwarden you are being misleading and it's making us sad.

Your website currently has a misleading link (and its affecting us being able to recommend ur tools).

Your dedicated Authentor app on the "Bitwarden Authenticator' page, has a Download it today button at the top of the page > That SHOULD take folks to the Authenticator download links (like at the bottom of the page), but instead it takes people to download the FULL Bitwarden Password Manager software.

Currently we're having to recommend folks use an alternative service as this is coming across as sneaky and dirty tactics. Really hoping it was unintentional. Regardless, pls fix so that this link takes ppl to download the tool they are expecting.

We were hoping to recommend ur service at our upcoming Digital Lounges, but we only endorse the most ethical open providers and stuff like this is the stuff the community notices.

I really don't think the technofeudalism theory makes much sense and I'm not really sure if Varoufakis has convincingly argued in its favor here...

"Q. Your analogy between feudalism and digital platforms has been criticized as excessive or merely metaphorical. Doesn’t your thesis risk obscuring, rather than clarifying, the real dynamics of power and exploitation in contemporary capitalism?

A. My critics often mistake my argument for claiming we have somehow returned to feudalism. That has never been my argument. My position is that we have moved to a new societal structure based on a mutated form of capital for wealth accumulation — unlike feudalism, which relied on land. The rise of this mutant capital, cloud capital, means that markets are replaced by cloud-based fiefdoms and profits by cloud rents. So, this new system shares some features with feudalism but is fundamentally built on capital, not land. Also — and this is crucial — because cloud capital is not productive, technofeudalism is parasitic and wholly depends on an ever-shrinking traditional capitalist sector, which, however, has lost its dominance in the distribution of income, wealth, and power. This is the best way to understand power and exploitation in today’s societies.

Q. To clarify, doesn’t the majority of the world’s workforce still operate within a capitalist system rooted in private ownership of the means of production and the extraction of surplus value from wage labor, as Marx described?

A. Yes. But that does not diminish my technofeudal hypothesis. Let me remind you that even in 1860, most people still worked under feudal relations of production, not capitalist ones. Yet feudalism was already dead and capitalism had taken its place."

UK Government: MORE DATA CENTERS!! WE NEED MORE DATA CENTERS!! The planet can well go to hell!

"Environmental and planning rules would be pared back to drive the building of giant artificial intelligence data centres under plans being considered by ministers.

Under a new AI bill, planning applications would gain automatic approval unless ministers intervened.

Sir Keir Starmer promised in January that the government would deliver a big expansion in artificial intelligence capacity in the UK but ministers have become increasingly disillusioned by the slow pace of the planning system.

A report by the Centre for British Progress, a think tank, being examined by ministers recommends that the law be changed to enable data centres to be built more quickly.

Applications to develop sites designated as AI “growth zones” would be approved automatically unless the secretary of state or local mayor objected within a short, set time frame.

Detailed environmental impact assessments and habitat regulations would be set aside, and developers required instead to pay into a central fund to mitigate all but the most serious environmental impacts."

Let's get a bit more #personal here...

If programming has taught me anything, is that we as humans are not so different to software - we're all work in progress.

I take my work seriously, but as for life in general - not so much.

I'm openly #gay, living in a long-term relationship of 10+ years.

I love #openSource, and try my best to use it/promote it.

I hate #bigTech, and I hope that #fediverse gets the popularity it deserves!

P. S. I'm obsessed with cats in my free time.
