@actuallyautistic Went to my first autistic adult social meetup tonight. I was super anxious and nervous going in...
I don't know anybody. What if I'm not "Autistic enough"? What if... I don't know. What if this invalidates me? What if I don't fit in?
It was an outdoor venue, so I took Zoe, my Husky, for backup. For comfort and as an icebreaker.
I stayed for an hour and a half, and I was really surprised how comfortable and relaxed it was. Talked when I had something to say, quiet when I didn't. No pressure to carry a conversation.
Sitting around with 8 neurodivergent strangers was leaps and bounds more comfortable than sitting around with 8 people I'm familiar with at my in-laws cottage.
On the whole, the experience was incredibly validating. It felt like... even if I didn't have specific interests in common with the few people I talked to, I found my people.

My 3 yr old niece wanted me to sing the song I sang to start off SIX MONTHS of storytimes yesterday and I couldn’t think of how it went. I only stopped using it a month ago. Curse you, #ADHD. This is why I have a little cheat sheet for all my songs for storytime, no matter how unprofessional I look.
When an autistic person patiently explains to you why their behaviour which you find strange/cynical/whatever, is just coping mechanisms to avoid getting into compulsive situations where they can't control themselves, if you then accuse them that this behaviour is in fact just excuses, "weaponised neurodivergence" or "using autism as a shield", you are in fact an ableist, no matter how self-righeous you become about it.
Ibland kommer det en låt som talar till en som inget annat. Som får dig att förstå och fatta att du inte är själv i världen.
Varför talar vi inte hela tiden om #PederStenberg och hans låt
The bad news: I often go on tangents fueled by autism and ADHD. The good news: That makes my writing sound more human than any LLM engineer could hope for. See 9:15 to 10:45 in Evan Edinger's video about AI writing tells.

why the hell are interviews always so damn terrible?!
I feel always so exhaused and am never really able to communicate what im and what i can.
Like I feel like i would need a night to sleep and process questions to give the correct and best answer.
Interviews always leave me with the feeling as if id be a fraud.
Ice cream is food too
It's never up to YOU to prove a snake oil salesman is lying or spreading misinformation. It is up to THEM to prove they have the credentials and field expertise to be listened in the first place.
Therefore you don't need to listen to someone's podcast, why feed the beast, to prove them wrong. Starve them instead by ignoring their existence.
Unintentional self inflicted minor injuries
We're still alive. But we're tired. We're learning to set and enforce boundaries and it's nearly funny to see how this makes the heads of a certain type of person explode
Am I considering all of my financial options for Elvanse?
Yes.
Could I get it today if I wish to get it?
Yes, I can just talk to whatever random psychiatrist on a videoconference TODAY from BUPA, ask for it nicely and get a prescription.
Do I want to?
I'd love to try it, but my eagerness to not separate myself from the 83€ it costs is stronger.
Today in “Britt’s Internal Monologue”:
Brain: “Why have we felt like shit for the last two days?”
Me: “I dunno. You should sleep better? Take your meds? Pace yourself better? Accept your limitations and stop pushing yourself?”
Brain: “Yeah but… what if it’s just that you recently started drinking caffeine again in small micro doses and then forgot that you started doing that and now you’re flatlining because you didn’t drink any caffeine for two days?”
Me: Yeah. Ok. It’s that.
#ADHD is a double edged sword, I swear.

Fact or fiction? The #ADHD info dilemma #TikTok https://medicalxpress.com/news/2025-06-fact-fiction-adhd-info-dilemma.html “Researchers found that participants exposed to ADHD misinformation demonstrated significantly lower accuracy in their ADHD knowledge, yet reported greater confidence in that knowledge after viewing the content. Notably, the misinformation group also expressed stronger intentions to seek both evidence-based and non-evidence-based treatments.”
