The Tasmanian nanowrimo community are still quite active in Launceston. We have been publishing a yearly zine for the last decade (this is the 10th year) some discussion hinted at not publishing another nanowrimo zine but it was decided by consensus that we would do one last nanowrimo zine since it was our 10th year. I suggested we do a second zine to segue into a new era - which is the link I posted above - checking to see if we can accept non Tasmanian writers! #nanowrimo #zine #writingcommunity #tasmania

Moving on from Nanowrimo, I am on a team of writers making a Tassie writers’ zine for the Hobart Small Press Zine on 4 October. We are taking contributions of 200-300 word flash fiction on the topic of “new” (no more nanowrimo!).Artwork also welcome. No payment because we are all volunteers having a moderate amount of fun doing this 😜 The zines will be sold by gold coin donation at the fair to cover the cost of table fee, travel and printing. More info on the google doc. I will post below about the nanowrimo history of this team. #nanowrimo #tasmania #zine #writingcommunity

#PhantastikPrompts 5.6.
Ist dein aktuelles Projekt ein Stand-alone oder Teil einer Reihe?

Ja, "A Wolf's Mate" ist Band 9 meiner Romantasy-Serie Wolves of the South.

#PennedPossibilities 690 — SC POV: What do you fear losing the most?

So, let's talk a bit about the "why" when it comes to this question.

Loss comes in many forms. It could be the loss of a loved one in death, of a romantic relationship, a bet, a best friend, a job or professional position, even loss of one’s pride. What kind of loss would absolutely cripple your SC?

Now, my answer...

Dante: My gang. They're my family and I f*ckin' love them . Losing them would be like losing everything. Living after that would be utterly pointless. And as long as we're on the subject, there's a certain someone that I love as well. Losing her would just about end me, same as the gang. I couldn't stand either losing my chooms or /her/. Just thinking about it makes me want to break something.

Gute Nacht, Freunde.

No writing.

Office Day was exhausting today, I hope I can do better tomorrow.

However, I am pondering a directory of some kind where indie authors can list their own stores - not their books, their stores.

A searchable list, maybe with genre tags so readers can discover new reads.

Because we need to unite if we ever want to get out from under Amazon's yoke. Right?

Another PSA about Amazon:

They only pay authors 30% in royalties (even if they price above 2.99) when someone buys a book through Amazon COM while not actually living in the US.

That's right. Amazon "steals" 40% of my royalties because the customer is in a different location that the USA.

Why?

Because they can. Because we authors let them get away with that. No other store does this.

Buy direct. Or at least not through Amazon.

I recently found out about a very famous writer who hasn’t written a book ages. What they write are synopses that are given to assistants trained to write in their style who do the actual writing. This is quite common apparently. I mean, I knew about ghost writing but thought it was for politicians and movie stars to write their memoirs or keys to success or whatever, but not famous writers. Surely not. #WritingCommunity

#ScribesAndMakers Day 4. What's the most challenging creative activity you've started? How did it work out?

Writing a memoir for the last Nanowrimo I did. I made the 50K limit, but as of today, the memoir is unfinished. I found looking back at my life was...difficult for a bunch of different reasons.

I'm trying out various different styles for my art. I'll let you know how it works out. 😂

#WritersCoffeeClub day 4: Do you consider writing work? Would you say writing is your life’s work?

In my case, writing falls under "work that I like (and really don't mind) doing". That being said, that's my own writing. Editing/correcting others' writing (usually students) is a different story. 😂

Writing is a huge part of my life's work, but it isn't the only thing.

Happy Pride Month! :progress_pride:

The other day I wrote a little something. If you're looking for a story that's #LGBT+ and you're a fan of #TheWitcher, here I am.

Geralt is pulling at loose threads to untangle the mess that this mystery in Toussaint has become, all while Regis shows up with Dettlaff to Orianna's residence. He's beyond livid, and a confession needs to be made in the aftermath.

(This particular piece takes place during "The Man from Cintra" quest, after the Mandragora party is over and Geralt is at Orianna's table with her, the duchess, Dettlaff, and Regis.)

Folks who are on Bookwyrm or Goodreads: besides leaving reviews, do you treat your account as a backlog, or a tally? And if a backlog, do you feel that its presence brings you more anxiety than, say, books on your shelf?

I'm in the middle of writing a post about how I use Bookwyrm, and need your perspectives. It'd be greatly appreciated!
